This hotel MADE our trip to Ecuador! We arrived after a horrific bus trip from Quito to Esmeraldas and then on to Same with no reservations anywhere. The moto-taxi driver dropped us at the Rampiral's gate and we were well received by receptionist Beatriz, just as we were by chef JuanJo with a hearty and tasty breakfast. Things just got better and better. As friendly and accommodating a staff as you'll ever find, a pristine beach of soft sand stretching into the sea, a warm and calm sea, fine meals, sleep with the sound of surf, comfortable cabin... Simply put, the Rampiral provided me with one of the most pleasant weeks in years. A definite return-to place still largely undiscovered.

we found this beautiful place on the net but were unable to book it (even for 2020 and beyond?!?) we happened to pass by on our trip to Atacames; met Owner/Manager Fernando Game who spoke fluent English. Still a mystery as to why this place is not accessible on tripadvisor; suggest phone direct (593)62470299 or (593)997034789. absolutely close to the water/sound of waves; looked safe; isolated; did not see nearby eateries;next visit to Ecuador I intend to check it out; ratings/views very subjective.

arrived on August 25th from Quito to spend my birthday, before had a slight problem with the website i used to book, however when calling the receptionist at the hotel (beatriz) her attitude on the telephone was so rude, ignorant and my wife spoke to her as she didn't even care. Arrived at the hotel and the same woman still had the same attitude, monotone, unmotivated and unwelcoming. We spent three days at the hotel, the manager Fernando is very welcoming and actually apologised to me on behalf of the attitude of Beatriz the receptionist, the cleaning and catering staff were good and helpful, the hotel has an excellent location to the beach and with just a few minutes walk to Casablanca's where you can find family run restaurants on the beach who are friendly and welcoming, listening to the waves in the morning was peaceful, The food in the hotel itself was very expensive for what it was and the pizzas are only served weekends, as during the week the hotel is dead. upon leaving the hotel AGAIN the receptionist had such a bad attitude, honestly i don't know why she is working there, unfortunately this reflects the hotel and she is not experienced to handle customer services which on top tried to charge me using a credit card which i did not have! Fernando she needs to be sacked! all in all i went for my birthday and felt it was ruined by this woman's attitude, not good!

My family of 4 had reservations at an apartment nearby at Casa Blanca, and decided right away not to stay there. Too noisy, not private at all. We then traveled to el sol, where we stayed before, but they did not have the room for us. I told my husband to just check next door, and they had a cabana available for us. Right away, I was greeted by the owner, Fernando. The place was perfect for us. We had a cabana right in front of the beach. 2 rooms with a bathroom between. We brought fans with us, which helped keep us cool. We were there for the new year, and had a wonderful time. My girls (2 and 5 years old) wanted pizza, and the cook, Daniel, let them help make the pizza. We felt very welcome and happy at el rampiral. My husband is from Ecuador so it definitely helps knowing Spanish, but I still felt welcome and could have gotten by on my own knowing English only. I definitely recommend coming here. We will come back one day.

During our trip of Ecuador we stayed at El Rampiral for 3 nights. We were shown our room that was right on the beach - not more than 10 meters from the water. The sound of waves was awesome! However, being so close to the beach left us feeling very vulnerable to a break-in / theft as we were the only guests. We had several nervous nights there, but thankfully needlessly. (When discussing this later in the trip with other residents, we were told that we indeed should have been nervous and were lucky to not have been robbed, yikes!) We had heard such great things about the pizza, but wasn't able to get one on any of the 3 nights that we were there. They did serve food for us one night, and it was pretty good. Otherwise, we felt trapped at the resort as they did not recommend us walking anywhere into town at night and the taxi drivers were in a meeting and unable to take us anywhere (this is what we could translate) I know that Ecuador is a Spanish speaking country, but after viewing a website in English, and corresponding with the hotel in English for our reservation, I was a bit surprised that we did not encounter one person who could say 3 words in English. We figured everything out, but it was interesting when the front desk wanted to charge me significantly more per night that was previously agreed to (Luckily I had brought along the printed email with the rate documented.) The rooms were more basic than I anticipated and were quite sweltering when the breeze swelled. The beach was amazing though! During the morning one could walk along it, play in the waves, and collect shells. Without little kids, it would probably be a 10 minute relaxing walk to town. Overall, you can probably find a nicer place to stay, but the proximity to the beach is going to be hard to beat. This place could be so much more...

Room Tip: The two bedroom cabins along the beach are the best.

Response from Hosteria_El_Rampiral, General Manager at Hosteria El Rampiral
Responded 3 Jun 2015
Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you very much for your feedback. We truly appreciate your comments as we are eager to improve our customer service on a daily base. We would like to respond to your comments/review and clear up a few points. As you’ve already mentioned the main language in Ecuador is Spanish. To provide additional service and make it easier for our international guests to stay with us we’ve decided to translate our website into English as well. This does not necessary mean that our whole staff is able to communicate with you in English. Having said that, our hotel manager does speak English very well (as he was the one who was communicating with your prior the arrival). Regarding your comment about the over-charge from our front desk we’d like to clarify that the reservation was made for 3 guests but in the end 5 guests checked-in including 2 kids plus you’ve ordered an extra breakfast which resulted in additional charge. Additionally, we would like to inform you that we never had any robberies or similar incidents around the property of our hotel. We do offer cabins located closer to the reception and the restaurant area which provides a bit of protection from the sounds of the sea. We would have loved to prepare you some fresh-made pizza. As our ingredients are all fresh and the pizza dough is made the same day we always ask for a little bit of anticipation from our guests as it takes some time to fire up the brick-oven and prepare the pizza. We do apologize for the inconvenience you’ve experienced during your stay and we promise to continue to improve our service. Thank you again for your feedback. El Rampiral.

A nice hotel, just on the outside of Same. Most of the rooms facing the beach where you can enjoy the sunset from your private balcony. In terms of the food, you have to try their home made pizzas. Excellent.

I usually don't write reviews but we had such a great time, I really wanted to share it today. From the moment we arrived it felt like pure vacation. The facilities as well as the cabines are very clean and nice. The food is excellent, starting with American and Ecuadorian breakfast up till fresh seafood and home made pizza from their own oven, there wasn't a single dish I could complain about. Alhough, the pool was very clean and maintained, the closeness to the beach (literally 5meters from the cabines to the beginning of the beach) we mainly enjoyed ourselves in the sea and the almost empty beach. The staff was very professional and discret (something that the hotel industry in Ecuador is often lacking). Jaime, the manager was very very nice and helped us with everything we asked for. When visiting Esmeraldas, Same and the Rampiral are an excellent choice to relax and enjoy your vacation. Thank you again Jaime! We'll return soon.

We were looking for a mid-point respite from travel and found the perfect retreat here, starting with the incredibly friendly and accommodating English speaking manager. Hardy breakfasts, horseback riding in a protected forest and farm, great beds and service, wood-fired pizza as a supper choice, and all situated on a perfect swimming and walking beach.

My experience at The Rampiral was very rewarding. The cabins are remodeled, the food is excellent and there is private parking so that's a plus. At night I fell asleep to the sound of the waves, the main advantage of this site is that you could actually relax.
