We spent 5 days at Upepo with our two young boys -- it was just what we needed as a break from some hard work in Burundi. Granted we're used to African traveling. But we found the accomodations clean and carefully prepared, though simple. The food was amazing. Great use of flowers everywhere for an exotic touch of beauty. The... More

We stayed for 4 nights at Upepo, part way through a 6 week tour of East Africa. Everything about our stay was perfect. The staff were friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. The bungalow was beautifully prepared: clean, and with lovely, welcoming touches such as flowers on the beds. The food was the best we had in Africa, with a... More

We stayed 5 nights at Upepo Bungalows. We were looked after by Patrick, Hassan, Juma and Jahaa (Rasta) the best way we possibly wish for. They are very generous, welcoming and caring people. When we had some rainy days the "boys" made sure we were enjoying our stay so they showed us their local games and we played and laughed... More

We had anticipated a laid back, pleasant atmosphere, but unfortunately were sadly disappointed. Bottom-line, we did not feel safe in staying here. We were also taken back by the lack of understanding regarding potential activities, and the push to sign up for really expensive outings, which we subsequently found through other avenues, to be much more affordable. The showers are... More

We are always thankful for feedback - be it positive or negative so that we can better our services to future guests. It is unfortunate that this guest felt her experience was not such a positive one. We pride ourselves on a relaxing environment at Upepo Bungalows but we have learned that many guests are interested in excursions and day... More

We stayed 3 days in Upepo BUngalows. Thanks to the hospitality of Patrick, Dumas, Rasta and the fourth brother of the spectacular Upepo's comunity, we spent a marvellous time at their home. Amazing sea food, no shoes while staying in the resort (for the overall 3 days!!!), beautiful palm beach, relax, I repeat relax, logistics arranged and a very warm... More

We arriived at Upepo after a 3 day safari trip to Mikumi in Tanzania. We were picked up by a taxi organised by Patrick, even though we were later than anticpated to arrive he was still there waiting - thank goodness. The electricity did cut out most nights, however as far as we were concerned it really didn't matter -... More

We stayed at Upepo for 5 nights in July 2011. We wanted to stay somewhere with a local feel, but that was not so 'local' that we felt a little out of our depth. Upepo generally did not disappoint. Bwejuu was beautiful. We knew the sea went out a long way to the reef when we booked our trip, and... More

The timing and expectations of my visit may be in question here. I was here Dec of 09 at a time when the hotel was still waiting for the electricity to kick in. It was quite hot so nights were hard. Also, wasn't the biggest fan of the area beach in general. The water receded too far away during the... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review! We are happy that the hotel portion of your stay was positive but that you weren't as happy about the location. We are happy to report that we have had electricity installed for some time now and all our rooms have fans for when the season becomes very hot (especially... More

We enjoyed our 3 nights at Upepo in May. During the rainy season, it was one of the few hotels and restaurants that was open. It is a small establishment, with just 3 bungalows. We were in the one facing the ocean and our boys shared another nearby. The food in the open-air restaurant was delicious.Patrick and Hassan were delightful hosts... More

I had a weekend between meetings and zipped off to exotic Zanzibar (see beachbumandbummette's review - they were in the beachside cottage, I was in the garden cottage - their review is spot on). I can't tell you how much it made the following week's work in Dar es Salaam easier and more energized. Great team takes care of you... More
