Stayed here as part of an organised kayaking tour. Firstly, the hostel is located on a busy road only yards from an equally busy train line. The noise meant it was impossible to get to sleep until very late - not ideal when you are up early for an energetic day - and compounded by kids yelling all evening. The rooms are hot with no aircon so it’s essential to have the window open. The rooms are the most basic of basic, 4 bunk beds & one camp bed, and you are expected to make your own bed on arrival. There are no towels, so bring one. Shame no one told me that - my ‘wet from the shower’ kayaking towel ended up making all my other clothes wet. The bathroom is small as expected, but clean, and the shower had good pressure & temperature. There are no toiletries to use. Breakfast was a non-event, there was no tea (only coffee), no juice, no water and at 07:55 (breakfast starts at 07:00) there was just lots of empty plates on the ‘buffet’. I ended up eating a cereal bar I brought with me and my own water. The bar sells alcohol which means you cannot take your own. The decking area is nice but the grassed section below needs some TLC. Walk into town for dinner, it’s only 700M or so, very pretty along the lake. The Voss gondola is a great way to see the views, only £30 return, and a great restaurant at the top! Pizza was very reasonably priced, and the petit Chablis perfectly chilled. I wouldn’t stay here again, and I will be recommending to the tour company that they provide a better option for people so they have a choice.

Beautiful view - rest is ordinary youth hostel standard. Huge common area, free parking and private bath per dormitory. A bit noisy and best shared among friends or family. Service acceptable - but we needed to discuss. Breakfast ordinary. Will upgrade next time.

Great location, ok rooms and a simply fantastic breakfast buffet make this a value for money choice in Voss. The all-organic breakfast made our day, with many vegetables and fruits from the nearby farm, and bread from the local bakery. Tip: ask for lake view if available.

Stayed here for one night with my wife in September. Not exactly 5* but you get what you pay for - a solid basic cheap sleep. Staff were friendly, room was pretty basic but we slept fine. Breakfast wasn’t bad. Good value for money overall, if we had the same budget we would be happy to return.

Stayed in four person room. Clean and good facilities in room but would have been better with one facing lake (ask when you book). Windows insulated us from all road noise however. Kitchen was very limited and crowded when more than one family cooking. Also, you can't drink your own beer (unless you hide it in some other container) as they have a bar and get quiet aggressive if they find you drinking your own alcohol. Grounds were generally a bit unkempt and benches a bit ropey - not as pristine as shown in the images on their website. Breakfast good and nice to sit out on the veranda to eat. Only a short distance to Voss rail and bus station if you are using these as part of a Norway in a Nutshell trip.

Stayed two nights as part of Norway in a Nutshell. Booked independently. A 10 min walk from the station. Great location overlooking the lake with a lovely sun deck and access to the lake. Breakfast was brilliant. For the price it was good but it is a little worn around the edges and the cooking facilities were really poor considering it’s a hostel. I think they want you to eat in their restaurant so no attempts to look after or upgrade it have been made. The kitchen is too small for the size of the hostel and the facilities in there need a really good clean. It’s a real shame and lets it down. I wouldn’t let it put you off because the location and price are good. The rooms are ok, but again - ready for a paint job and a really good deep clean although I think the bathroom was new and it was clean. Nice fresh bed linen and towels and friendly staff. You have to buy alcohol from them if you want to drink it in the “common” areas.
