During our 9 days in Portugal we stayed in various types of lodging - basic hotel, luxury hotel, a former castle, and an apartment. While all were good, Passado de Pedra was our favorite. The owner was welcoming, despite our late arrival. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and spotless. The common TV sitting area beside our bedroom gave us extra... More

This small hotel is a lovely renovation of the owner's family home place in Caria, a small, attractive Portuguese town. The owner is very friendly, accommodating and helpful. She communicates well in English and is eager to assist. The rooms are very attractive and comfortable. Breakfast is fabulous, with wonderful baked goods, cheeses, fruit and fresh orange juice.

This boutique hotel (or maybe larger B&B) is owned and operated by the great granddaughter of the man who built the home around 1810. Rooms are large, tastefully decorated and completely up to date. We stayed in a huge second floor room with its own sitting area and a very spacious bath with views from multiple windows. Each room is... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This house belonged to the great grandfather of the present owner. We are not sure about the year of its construction, but above the lintel of the entry in the first floor is engraved the date of 1810. The architectonic group was formed by one main building with three floors, two as dwelling-house and the ground-floor with two "lojas" for animals. This was typical of the traditional houses in this region. Besides this building, there existed a wine mill and a building where the straw was kept. The house was rebuilt maintaining its original plan and using, whenever it was possible, the same type of materials (wood and stone), combined with more up to date architectural materials and objects. ... more   less
