Hibiscus Valley is a Swedish owned guesthouse with its Dominican family atmosphere. We offer 3 different types of accommodation and 12 min from the airport. With four "Nature bungalows" in Dominican ECO country style, with two rooms in each with own bathroom and exotic veranda, they are situated in a beautiful and calm area next to the beautiful Pagua river, with a natural river pool, the rainforest and the Kalinago territory. All rooms are situated within a minute walk from the beautiful Pagua river with its natural pools. At Hibiscus Valley Inn, we try as hard as possible to take advantage of what the nature offers without encroaching on comfort. The beautiful garden is seen from all the rooms and the hummingbirds sucking nectar just outside your exotic veranda. Four semi-deluxe rooms with AC and other amenities and a spacious bathroom. A wooden cottage by the riverside, can take 5 persons. Open air restaurants specilize in local cuisine with an international touch, (ONE CUP of LOCAL, a DASH of INTERNATIONAL and a LOT OF LOVE) . An extended tour program with our popular certified guides, who will take you to known and unknown sites. We cater for English, Swedish, Creole spoken.

We rated this higher purely on the staff who are very warm, welcoming and friendly. Rita works very hard doing most of the things that keep this place going including cleaning the rooms and preparing breakfast each morning with help from Nigel and Shine who made some lovely evening meals. Nigel makes some wonderful local rum punch which is certainly worth a try. Danny was an excellent guide - we would recommend asking for him particularly as he is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He took us on several trips during our stay, acting as both driver and guide. He knows all about Dominica including the wildlife and plants We also really enjoyed the river tubing and would recommend this also. Just make sure you have a lift back and towels at the finish - our lift wasn’t there (we had to wait about 45 minutes) and therefore we had no towels when we got out either. We stayed at Hibiscus twice. The first room we had was OK. However, we requested the same room in advance for our return trip but were told on arrival the owners grandson had arrived and wanted it himself so we were unlucky. Unfortunately the room we were allocated this time had no working TV (not a problem for us but could be for some), the safe key was lost so couldn’t be used, the door had to be locked with a key at night otherwise it swung open and the same key was required for fan and air con (hence you were locked in with no key in the door - a bit of a safety issue), the fridge was not working properly and we had no hot water in the shower. We also had a very smelly stray dog which kept trying to get into the room (which meant we couldn’t sit on the balcony or leave the door open). Our stay was only one night and no one was able to sort these out before we checked out. The staff are doing their best with the rooms which were both spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds but they seriously need upgrading for the price being charged. It needs to be made clear that lunches are not currently provided - particularly for people with no transport (like us). We understood from the website you would be able to buy lunch and we arrived ready to eat. Rita very kindly prepared us something otherwise it would have been a long wait until dinner. However, we very much enjoyed our stay - due to all the staff that work there and the fact that you meet people of many nationalities with similar interests. It’s also a wonderful location surrounded by rainforest and close to the river. I hope the owners appreciate the hard working friendly staff!

We stayed a week in a nature bungalow at Hibiscus Valley Inn. Between the ceiling fan and the breezes, we did not miss having AC and slept well to the sounds of nature in the rain forest at night. The highway below was quiet at night. The staff at Hibiscus Valley were very friendly and always helpful. Rita did a fantastic job arranging various activities for us around the island, as well as fixing great breakfasts and a delicious pumpkin soup for lunch on the two occasions we were on site at lunchtime. In the evenings, Nigel cooked up fabulous dinners featuring local ingredients in the restaurant. He also introduced us to Kubuli beer, the Dominican lager that comes in 250ml bottles, and that go down so easily after a warm day exploring this beautiful, mountainous country. The drivers/guides were also great. The bungalows are two units per building, each with its own bathroom with shower. There is mosquito netting around the bed, though bugs were really not a problem during the time we visited. We often sat on the chairs on the veranda, relaxing and enjoying the ever present breezes.

What a hidden gem! Getting to Hibiscus Inn is quite easy, from the airport is approx. 15 mins. Upon arrival we were guided to one of the bungalows hidden away in the lush garden. The room had his own bathroom, a ceiling fan and mosquitoes screen in the windows. Each bungalow has a terrace to enjoy the view of the green lushes surrounding. A true nature retreat. Nigel the chef and host is a very dedicated, friendly host, who make a fantastic dinners and great local cocktails. Just ask him he has great connections and great suggestions. Our favourite place every day and at any time, was the natural river pool A+, If you happen to spend sometime here, they can organize you a cook out with local flavours and local friends

I had a great experience at Hibiscus Valley. The staff was super attentive and made our stay very positive. The food was delicious, Omarie led us on a tour and made sure we were taken care of, and the room was comfortable, clean and helped to have the option of a/c. The location was also great, in that it was outside of a major city so it was very quiet and peaceful. I would absolutely stay here again.

We LOVED the Hibiscus Inn. We arrived at dusk, were given a very friendly welcome to our clean and comfy room and told that dinner was underway. Excellent! We were quickly served cold beers and a delicious meal which we enjoyed in the company of fellow travellers and Chef Nigel, who added a great local vibe. An excellent experience which was only surpassed by the next day's adventures. Long story short.....a young female student had arrived in Dominica minus her two colleagues but with their luggage. She convinced us to take her, plus much luggage, on our tour of the island. By afternoon, the roughly sketched plan to put her on a bus or taxi was proving problematic until we literally bumped into Chef Nigel and his friend Dianne in Rousseau. Upon hearing our dilemma, they amazingly offered to drive our new friend the long and out-of-their-way route to her new lodging. Unbelievably great service and kindness to guests who had already checked out of the Inn. You can't beat the warmth and hospitality of the Hibiscus Inn staff. PS: I recommend booking a room with air-con.

Staying here ended up being the highlight of our two-week trip around the islands. This guesthouse was thoughtfully built by Nora and her family, and they provided us with a great first-hand history of the island. Dinner time was particularly memorable, with all of the guests coming together in the dining area to share their travel stories over some amazing meals prepared by Nigel. Our group stayed in three of the bungalows, and it was the best sleep we had on our travels, with the peaceful breeze and periodic sound of rain on the roof throughout the night. The Hibiscus can help you on all sorts of excursions around the island, including the renowned "Boiling Lake" (which we hope to do next time). We did an afternoon river tubing tour guided by Angus, visited the Kalinago Cultural Center, and swam in several of the waterfalls situated all over the island. And, while the guesthouse makes you feel like you're in a remote part of the rainforest, you're actually only about a 15-minute drive from the airport. Aside from the tranquil and scenic environment, the best part about staying here was the people. Nigel's was the first face we saw when we stepped off the ferry in Roseau, and he became an integral part of our time on Dominica - from his driving tours, to cooking the dinners that we looked forward to each night, to his ridiculously-good rum concoctions, and, of course, his consummately positive vibe. It was a pleasure to see Rita and Karen each morning at breakfast. While their eggs with avocado was a big hit, my particular favorite was their pumpkin soup. And a shout-out to Omary, who always made sure we got where we needed to be - no matter how hard we made that for him. One of the other reviews said "We felt like part of the family", and I don't think that could be said any better. Nora and her family have put together a very special place, and we were lucky to have stumbled upon it. We hope to be back again soon!
