We spent a couple of nights here, in the big old room at the top of the tower. Honestly - this has the worst, oldest, most appallingly sprung double bed I've ever encountered. But apart from that, when we checked in, we were met by a rather curt attitude, the owner of which neglected to mention that even as hotel... More

I first visited NZ 17 years ago and one of my fondest memories was visiting the Waitomo Caves and staying at the Waitomo Caves Hotel where we enjoyed an amazing BBQ and bubbles on the terrace. It's a memory that has stayed with me, and one, I wished to re-live when we visited earlier this year. The only way I... More

We stayed here for one night in a family room - 2 adults and 2 children paying $235 which included breakfast (Continental. Cereal, stale toast and a bit of fruit). We were greeted by a female hotel staff member who was not overly friendly. The entrance of the building looking grand and inviting......it ended there! We had to drag our... More

We stayed here for three nights. The room was tiny, cramped, cold and the facilities were old. It took 20 minutes for the hot water to come through the shower!! Not impressed. The website pictures of rooms are better than the reality. We were so disappointed. It was beautiful on the outside though!

We stayed at this hotel a number of years ago when visiting New Zealand and it was an amazing place, so vibrant and a joy to stay. Because of this we were so looking forward to a return stay this year. From the outside it looks as lovely as ever, however once inside it really didn't live up to our... More

We stayed one night so we could have a full day at The Caves, which were fantastic, and we couldn't of been happier with our stay. The Hotel is fantastic, be it a little dated, but the Family are now seeing to that with a new dinning room being under renovation at time we were there. This didn't deture from... More

One night here on trip around New Zealand. Got upgraded room, really friendly staff. Room was dated but clean and ideal for the stay. If you want the latest mod cons then this isn't for you. If you want a friendly, chilled out hotel with no pretensions then this is ideal. Evening meal and breakfast both great and no complaints.... More

We stayed for just one night at this hotel whilst visiting the caves at Waitomo; could happily have stayed longer! After a long walk up the hill (we were travelling by bus, and later discovered there was a quicker way back down to the road via a small wooded garden) our first view of the hotel was pleasant surprise, it... My wife and I stayed one night as part of a $248 overnight “Grabone” package which included dinner, breakfast and an evening visit to the Footwhistle glow worm cave. For the price it was fair value, especially the tour of the cave, which needed the night-time visit to properly appreciate the many glow worms in the banks of the cutting... More
