The villas have everything you need, close to town but set in the perfect bush setting with a bubbling creek at the foot of the garden. We sat in the hot tub and sipped champagne after a long hard day and it was perfect especially with the sound of the creek, native bush, the fresh air and the stars. We didn't bring our kids but it had plenty of space outside to run around and a smart tv ap capable for entertainment. Beds were comfortable and the host responsive and helpful. I would definitely recommend coming here.

We loved our villa. The manager could not be more helpful to us or kind. The location is perfect just outside of town. Private! Quiet! Amazing space in the villa, great bed, excellent water pressure and temperature. Would return in a heartbeat.

What a wonderful place this is! We, a family of 4) first stayed in one of the Driving Creek Villas cottages about three years ago. This was our second visit. Some time having passed since our last visit, we were especially delighted to find that nothing had changed. We stayed in a different cottage this time, (1 of 3 available) and had a great time! The property, (as are the grounds) is well designed, clean, well maintained and private.Happy to recommend this property as a very nice place to stay for couples or families. Special thanks to "Pete" the property manager, (who we met for the first time during our most recent visit) who was so friendly, kind and helpful.

Coromandel is one of the most beautiful spots in New Zealand, a tourist paradise by the sea with a relaxed and informal character. We chose to stay in a place that looked beautiful in all the internet images we could find and on their own site. It boasted three luxury villas surrounded by native bush, with a private Japanese hot tub outside each room and all the modern conveniences including a high-speed internet connection. It was expensive. (NZ$345/night for four of us.) My 89-year-old mother, my daughters from New York and Hawaii, and myself decided to stay there for the weekend as the highlight of a family reunion. It's a charming location, as described on the website. We were satisfied with the look of the place when we arrived. Then we learned there was no hot tub. Only the two other villas had hot tubs. And there was no internet. (Although the owner suggested we go into the forest with our laptops to see if we could pick up a connection!) The hot tub was the big draw for my mother. We expressed our disappointment to the owner who argued that the absence of a hot tub was indicated on the wesbite. (He later conceded that it wasn't and said he'd correct it.) We decided to leave the next morning. As I was checking out he asked if I was happy. When I responded, "not really", he exploded, unleashing a string of violent language and expletives calling me every name under the sun. He was threatening and clearly unhinged. My mother and daughters were shaken and our entire holiday was coloured by the event. I counsel you to avoid this place at all cost. An owner who behaves like this is simply too big a risk. It's rare to find such unpleasant characters in New Zealand. It's a friendly, hospitable place with generous, kind people. But, as always, there are exceptions.

I was terrified of visiting Coromandel because it’s utterly unique, peaceful and incredibly beautiful. If that sounds like an oxymoron, it is, but my trepidation came from having grown up in the Township. After an absence of almost 20 years, I dreaded the prospect of seeing my idyll ravaged by ‘progress’.

Given my fears, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Driving Creek Villas location because the cottages sit on the subdivided remnants of a beautiful properly we used to play on when we were kids. Happily, our stay turned out to be truly wonderful. This 'new' version of the old place is so sympathetic to its surroundings that I couldn’t help but be impressed.

The cottages themselves are rustically gorgeous, fully self-contained, and set within beautifully maintained gardens that blend seamlessly into the natural landscape. We arrived about 8pm to find the key waiting and the fire laid. Our cottage was invisible from the other two so we were immediately enveloped by a sense of being in ‘our own’ space, which is exactly what I had hoped for. My travelling companion lives in the Middle East and had never been to NZ before. He was very taken with the classic ‘Kiwi’ design of the cottage, particularly the lovely windows and the expansive low decking.

The bathroom was well appointed and the water pressure was great.

We had already purchased dinner ingredients at Sabato in Auckland and Packnsave in Thames so we were pleased to find the kitchen very well stocked with equipment and utensils. We are both well-travelled foodies and keen cooks, and our only unfulfilled ‘wants’ were clearer instructions for the oven and champagne glasses; they even had a citrus juicer for my newly acquired supply of NZ grapefruit.

Our cottage had a lovely atmosphere at night and the traffic along Colville Road dwindled to nothing after dark so it was blissfully quiet. After dinner was done and the fire had died down, I chose the bedroom on the ground floor and flung open the windows and French doors. Being lulled to sleep by the music of Driving Creek, accompanied by Moreporks calling from the bush, was an almost religious experience for this homesick ex-local. Try it. You'll love it.

If you have time in the morning, do yourself a favour and walk into town for breakfast at Peppertree. It takes about 40 mins if you meander and it’s so much nicer than just whizzing along in a car. We did that, then spent the rest of the day stocking up at the Smokehouse, visiting the railway and driving out to the beaches to fossick for pretty stones and sit on Pohutukawa branches watching the tide come in as the sun set over the islands. We had drinks at the Star & Garter and dinner at home again, topped off with a dip in the hot tub and a final (wine)glass of champagne. Perfect.

As for the town itself, change has happened but it’s certainly not devastating. The drapery is now the rather nice pub where we had drinks, my grandparents house is now the rather eclectic Driving Creek Café, Barry’s railway has grown into an internationally recognized business and holiday accommodation abounds. All good. A few extra side roads have popped up, properties have been subdivided and Driving Creek Road is considerably busier, but the essence of the place hasn’t changed.

So immaculate and well run is this property, and so trouble-free was our stay that we didn’t meet David until we checked out, but all I can say in retrospect is thanks. I loved it.

If you’re travelling to NZ, you really should visit Coromandel, and if you’re visiting Coromandel you’d be nuts not to stay here.

We jumped ship on our planned itinerary and so pleased we did. I could not face one more hotel room and this little cabin was beautiful and secluded with a full kitchen and a private hot tub. We set out in the evening by the bubbling creek and enjoyed a bottle of wine which was a gift of the management. You will love the place. Highly recommended!

Villa set within the bush offering top class accommodation, privacy and seclusion. Everything was provided for a great stay including a hot tub and barbecue. We enjoyed Moehau Villa set in its own area of bush totally screened from its two neighbours and enjoyed sitting on the deck at breakfast watching the birds..

Well equipped with basic amenities and nicely kept house.
Very cozy to stay in and has good heating inside house. So you'll still be comfortable during winter.
They also provide free bikes for you to cycle around the town, though we did not get to use them due to wet weather.
Close to Driving Creek Railway and local attractions. Will take about 1 to 1.5 hours to drive to Hot Water Beach or Cathedral Cove.
Will definitely choose to stay there again if we were to make a trip to Coromandel in the future.

The house was simply beautiful; incredibly tranquil. From our house, we could see only nature; no other buildings or cars. The house had everything we needed and more as well as being very conveniently located near town. Our host suggested Wharf Rd cafe which was delightful. My husband and I traveled with our 2 11 year old children and my 90 year old aunt; everyone was delighted with the house.
