This place is in such a gorgeous location right in the middle of the mountains and close to the walking tracks around Mt Cook. The backpacker rooms were spacious, beds were average. The bathroom included a bath tub which was great if you have gone months without having a bath available! Other than that the bathroom was average, but could... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our Backpacker Lodge, I'm sorry to hear that the lodge wasn't up to your expectations, a little disappointing that the bathroom may have needed a decent clean however this would have also been good to know while you were staying here as I then could have done something about it. The staffs... More

We booked a double room apartment. Sadly, you can only see Mt Cook from this accomodation if you are dining in the restaurant. However, the view from our room was still nice. We knew it was backpackers accomodation but since we'd paid reasonable money for an apartment we thought we may have been spared the noise from the backpackers. The... More

Thank you for choosing to stay at The Mount Cook Backpacker Lodge and reviewing our property on TripAdvisor. At the time of your stay we had a large group in that were rather noisy so I apologize for that. It is a shame that you can't see Mount Cook from the rooms, however to have Mt Wakefield almost at your... More

It's just a ski style lodge, we stayed in a nice 4 share, the shower was good! It's not designed to much for the backpacker budget as the kitchen isn't well equipped and meals from the bar slightly too pricey. Can't complain too much about the 30 dollars a night I paid, but I wouldn't have wanted to pay more.

Thanks for taking the time to review our property, We have been trying to come up with a solution in terms of the Communal kitchen, we have to restock this kitchen at least once a month due to thievery, we do try and keep an eye on the kitchen however you can’t be there 24/7. Our meals that we offer... More

I booked the lodge as the Internet appearance looked fine. Building from the outside looks good, location is stunning and staff at bar was in a very good mood. Unfortunately the rest didn't match. Welcome at reception was neutral, guy rather complacent. Free Internet voucher (for private rooms) was only handed out when I mentioned that its on the webpage... More

If you're on a budget, this backpacker lodge is a good option to consider. Choices for accommodation are quite limited in the Aoraki Mt Cook village, and this one is reasonably priced. i paid NZ$120 per night for a double room with ensuite bathroom and free WiFi for 24 hours. the room even had a small fridge. the downside: I... Thank you reviewing our property on TripAdvisor and for choosing to stay with us in one of the most beautiful locations in New Zealand. One of the downsides to being in this wonderful location is the little bugs we have flying around especially during the summer months (same as the West Coast and Fiordland), all we ask and advise is... People need to stop giving this place such a tough time, for $34 per night what do you expect? The rooms are a bit gruby but I've seen worse. The views of Mt. Cook from your bedside are fantastic and for a one night stay this place is perfectly fine. The bar upstairs served decent food at a reasonable price... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. I don't really know how to respond to the "rooms are a bit grubby", we pride ourselves on clean rooms, I have completed many spot checks since your stay and have found the rooms to be clean and tidy, some of the rooms are getting new carpet soon so I... We travelled with our 3 year old son. So, needed some extra room rather than just a hotel. The hermitage hotel was very expensive. So we booked at the backpackers lodge - unit with a private kitchen. It had great views right outside of our room. It was fine for the price. The rooms were a little old but were... More

This is just an average place and it is a backpackers' so even though we stayed at an individual room we had to use the communal kitchen where there were a whole bunch of backpackers cooking steak and other stuff - looks fun though. Place is clean but for some strange reasons no cleaning was done even though we stayed... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our property, Just so your clear for next time, you don't have to use the communal kitchen, we do have One Bedroom apartments that have a fully self-catering kitchen, however you may not have been made aware of this. Daily services on the rooms are done for every private room that stays... More

We are used to staying in a different range of backpackers but this is something else! The rooms were not cleaned properly and desperately need updating but that was okay compared to the kitchen! The weather was hot and had been for quite sometime but that did not stop the heating in the kitchen area from being on full hence... More

our group of 12 stayed overnight at Mt Cook in February. Not able to afford the other accommodation options in the area, we booked in to the Backpackers Lodge. Still turned out to be the most expensive accommodation on our whole trip. Rooms were all ensuite and a reasonable size; beds were comfortable; bathrooms a good size. Also had a... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our property, the whole area may be considered expensive for some but please you need to bear in mind the beautiful and remote location.
