The location is perfect, not far from the bus stop at the town center. Betty was nice to pick us up.We stayed one night and loved its beautiful garden. The room, kitchen, and lounge are spotlessly clean. The place is so peaceful, a great place to relax and rest. The back door leads to a hiking trail (Tongariro River trail). Free... More

This was a return trip and we will always make this lodge a destination when travelling and needing accommodation in the Central North Island. There are so many activities in the area to do which makes this accommodation the perfect base.Doug and Betty are the perfect hosts nothing is too much trouble and they are great fun. Have stayed here twice and will gladly do so again. Betty and Doug are wonderful hosts, the position is perfect and the gardens are just beautiful. Everything is neat and tidy and there's a drying room for fishing gear or ski gear. The self contained cottage is my favourite. Highly recommended.

Betty was great her advice and knowledge was very helpful. The lodge itself was a good base, especially for single travellers, passing through the area or ramblers, fishermen, sport loving persons. Great walk (Tongariro River Loop Track) in the morning along the beautiful nearby river. Blue the dog is gorgeous, accommodation overall is recommended. Some persons may find it a... More

We always stay here when passing through or busy with activities in Turangi. Have stayed as a couple, have stayed with small children, have stayed with big children! It's excellent value for money with small ensuite and shared communal lounge and kitchen/dining area. What we love is the oppportunity to meet other adventurous travellers, the peaceful surroundings and welcome hosts.... More

My husband and I stayed at the sportsmans lodge on our way from Wellington to Auckland. The owners were so lovely! They showed us around when we got there and even dropped me back into town to catch my bus as I'm 7 months pregnant. The kitchen facilities were great and the gardens were beautiful. Thank you so much :)

We stayed only the one night, arrived late and left early. What wonderful owners, Betty stayed open for us, showed us around and made sure we were happy. The facilities are wonderful. The roosm are basic and small as would expect in a sporting lodge with a communal kitchen and lounge. Woudl recommend and stay again

Recently stayed for just one night with family. Would have quite happily stayed for more as the place is fantastic and not just for those hunting and fishing. The owners were so friendly and the rooms, although basic, were spotlessly clean and functional. The kitchen was immaculate and the lounge was a lovely place to relax in of an evening.... More

My husband and I recently stayed at the Sportsmans Lodge and loved the rustic and friendly feel of the place. The owners are very nice and they have an awesome "guard dog" named Blue who loves belly rubs. The rooms are minimal, but well-maintained and guests are provided with the essential (towels, hand soap, bed, clean sheets). There is a... More
