We stayed and ate here last night for our anniversary. The staff were momentarily thrown by our scruffy appearance but recovered admirably (and quickly!) and made a thorough fuss of us throughout our stay. We had some criticisms - things you would forgive in a newly taken over hotel, but would be easy to fix and not really understandable in... More

Decided to give this place another chance having been perhaps twice since our last review in 2007. We last came about 18 months ago and found menu and service not really value for considerable cost. This time, however, things were different. Firstly, the weather was excellent. Very important, I feel, to get decent weather if you are wanting to explore... More

(Restaurant only) Service could only have been outdone by Fawlty Towers. Food designed to impress not to be enjoyed (did neither). From the lack of atmosphere to the unfriendly service this was a memorable evening for the wrong reasons. The food did nothing to improve anyone's mood. They really need to get back to basics and take a good look... More

However the price isn't. I think to say this was an average dining experience is fair, even tough at the time I was quite annoyed. Like a number of reviewers here I was expecting something fabulous - why wouldn't you? I've eaten fabulous food in the past a quite modest bistros and gastro pubs so this shouldn't have been an... We live quite locally and eat here once or twice a year - an anniversary, and the occasional ad hoc visit. I guess the fact that we have returned several times says something. Yet there is something not quite there about the place. The food is really very good indeed (notwithstanding the occasional lunacy): but "very good indeed" doesn't quite... More

We'd been looking forward to a meal here - running my own business in tourism in the local area I try to eat at local restaurants in order to recommend them to my guests. Service good, but over the top. e.g. "May I introduce you to the menu." Staff knew about the wine and food on the menu, cuts of... More

I rang Fischers on 14th Oct to book a sunday lunch for my boyfriends birthday in December, I spoke to a lovely lady on reception and asked about a childs size portion as I have had weight loss surgery, she said that they do childrens meals for £18.50 and it would be a half portion, she said this would be... This place couldn’t get any further up its own exhaust pipe if it tried. Pretentious in the extreme, yet the food was close to inedible. The only upside was that the service was so ‘over-the-top’ that it provided some entertainment. We couldn’t help but laugh at the wine ‘waitress’ who had the personality and demeanour of a prison officer or... More

We stayed at Fischers for four nights recently on our honeymoon. It was just what we wanted after the stress leading up to the wedding - a relaxing atmosphere with great food. We stayed in Garden Room 1, which was very quiet - other than people accessing the laundry room downstairs in the morning, the only other sounds we heard... More

Only booked our wedding 3 weeks in advance, was going to take the plunge in Vegas for some reason, but of course family ends up coming first and to avoid upset we decided on getting married in the UK, the 1st place we tried was Fischers and luckily they were free the weekend we wanted. The day could not have... More
