We booked a Liwagu Suite but were upgraded to the Nepenthes Lodge, a large two story, 2 bedroom lodge with fireplace and balcony. OK, we knew from the reviews the whole facility was overpriced but we choose to stay there anyway. And yes, the lodge was not well kept up with peeling paint and a leaking roof and shower. And... it was a beautiful experience..rather too peaceful :) we enjoyed the fireplace & truly relaxing before getting to the peak. worth every experience. If only we knew that 1 room can accommodate 4-5 pax,it will be good to bring friends too.

We stayed in the Liwagu Suite. It was beautifully set out with a two storey layout. We overlooked the jungle from our balcony. It was very quiet and clean. If you use this hotel as your stay over for the mountain climb, then they will throw in some extras for you along the way. Well worth the stay and you... More

We booked a chalet in Hill Lodge as a part of a tour arranged by DownBelow company and we think this is the only negative point in all activities we planned with DownBelow. In Kinabalu area, the weather is often cloudy, foggy and cold and a heater is one of the most basic furniture a room needs in this area,... More

Had stayed at Sutera Sanctuary Lodges at Kinabalu Park in 2008 and wasn't entirely impressed with the lodges which were, even at the time, extremely expensive to stay at per night. Having a short trip to Borneo, the opportunity came again to stay at the lodges and I was impressed with how far the lodges have come since they have... More

We already knew that the room would be overpriced and have accepted that fact early on. Luckily for us, we found the Liwagu Suites to be worth it and have overall enjoyed our vacation in Kinabalu Park. Stayed for a couple of nights with my wife and 3yo son. The place had a living room, a couple of bathrooms (only... More

We stayed in the Rock hostel for one night in a twin bed... Of course we knew that the room was awfully expensive...but once we got there ... The room smelled of mildew and was so noisy that we felt we were sleeping with all the other guests of the building ! The diner, not included in the price was... More

This is a disgraceful rip off. The room with two bunk beds was very basic, with no proper bedding for the temperature (relatively cold at night), not particularly clean, and the communal facilities were very poor and run down. One thing if you pay budget prices, but at MYR600+ for two adults and two children for one night this is... More

The hotel at the base of Mt Kinabalu was cute, and we liked the wooden panelled hexagonal ceiling. The rooms were simple though. We shared a 6 ps dorm room at Laban Rata, and it was warm enough, but must have been the most expensive dorm bed in the world. The 2 buffets were ok, but as noted in a... More

Sutera Sanctuary Lodges has complete monopoly on the bookings of Mt. Kinabalu hike package. This company manages all the hostels at Kinabalu Park, Poring and also Laban Rata. Quota allocation of beds at Laban Rata is given to selected few travel agencies which mostly promote 3D/2N Mt. Kinabalu hiking package. It is almost impossible to do booking by your own... More
