The Songtsam Hotel Shangri-La is lovely and peaceful. Beautifully decorated and terrific service made this our best stay on our nine day tour of Yunnan. Comfortable beds!!! Free car shuttle to retreat for spa treatments and massage. Next door to the monastery and a lovely little village. This hotel and the environs is a photographer's dream. Snow covered mountains, authentic... More

I stayed in a superior room on the 4th floor. The room was spacious, with a nice view including a sitting area and a zide screen flat TV. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was comfortable and nicely decorated. Breakfast was perfect, with an ideally attentive staff waiting upon your every needs, as throughout the hotel. The location... More

This is a traditional Tibetan style building and the room we stayed in was an experience in itself. Upon arrival, we were asked to change into kungfu slippers provided by the hotel to avoid damaging of the wooden floor. A cup of ginger tea was offered during check in. Our deluxe room was beautifully furnished overlooking the lake. Bathroom was... More

We stayed 2 nights there after trekking the Tiger Leaping Gorge. Pros: - Very quiet, a wonderful respite from the noise in Lijiang and recover from the trek - Very nice and peaceful atmosphere upon arrival - Love the kungfu shoes - Nice and comfortable bed, slept really well - Humidifier was a nice touch and a necessity as heaters... This place is absolutely AMAZING. Truly a great hotel and certainly the best we had on our trip, we stayed 2 nights. The reason you go to Shangri-La is not for the the town itself but the attractions around it and the Songstam was certainly the right decision. At check in the helped us with our bags which was great... More

The last station on our Songtsam Tour was Shangri-La. The Hotel is beautiful while a bit bigger then the other two hotels we stayed before. The view from the room towards the lake is magnifcant as well the location is superb. Our Guide Topten arranged on our second at a tour to his native village which is a hidden paradise.

Yes the Hotel is charming and authentic and it is located right next door to the monastery but we came away quite disapointed from a 2 night stay at the songstam. The rooms had a smoky ambience about them constantly perhaps due to incense used liberally throughout the hotel so that we had to open a window to the frigid night... This hotel is a very charming place that enhanced our experience of being in Shangri La. The decor and service is impeccable! They have used gorgeous pieces of painted Tibetian furniture. Their breakfast is a very good mix of western and chi exes cuisine. The service is extremely attentive without it being obtrusive. They also have a beautiful library where... More

Stay for 2 nights and just checked out hotel today. Day 1 arrived hotel and was required to exchange our shoes to hotel shoes since the hotel floor is made in wooden. This is to prevent from making noise. After that, was given a cup of ginger tea. Taste good. Hotel is unique and since it is out of city... More

Sitting on a hill overlooking the nearby monastery, this is a classic hotel. Silk hanging over your bed. Wooden bathtub. Wonderful food in a variety of cuisines. Helpful staff. It's not in the town, but that is probably a blessing.
