Comfortable rooms with fans and beautiful views, but poor service and not enough staff in the restaurant. Good spot for childless families to relax, but not enough shade for children and meal times were difficult to plan for as they were set but also only able to cater for one table at a time. Also a weird French expat vibe.

Horrible! We needed two rooms for two couples: my parents, my husband and I. I'll try to make a list so it encapsulates our experience fully and directly: - They have 2 Facebook accounts with two different names and having two different information (about room availability and what is offered) - Asking them about availability and telling them your plans of staying there for information purpose WILL BE TAKEN as a booking and they'll be PISSED if you don't tell them your definite plan after. (We didn't know so ok, I'll put that in the HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION box) - We booked two rooms with hot water, we got two rooms in a new house that WAS NOT READY for guests (no water at all, no garbage bins, and most importantly, NO WARNING whatsoever upon booking) - Upon arrival, nobody at the reception, no "Welcome/Good Morning/etc...", Instead, we got: "You're early! Please wait." - When asked about the lack of water (cold and hot, no water at all) and the quality of the service (because what are we really paying for?), We got SCREAMED at, told to look for another hotel and PERSONALLY INSULTED with, and I quote: "Madam, I have never seen anyone as difficult as you." Anakao was our last destination after a long trip to put this into context: my husband and I travel a lot and this year, Anakao was supposed to be the cherry on top after three cities in Japan, Mumbai India, and three other cities in Madagascar. And I have to say, it was the only bad and WORST SERVICE we've had and one of the most expensive stays. BUT The good: the beach is gorgeous, Anakao is gorgeous. Too bad our stay was soured by the service.

I loved this hotel in terms of the room I had in a chalet on the beach with a fantastic view. I wish I had been able to stay for longer than the two nights that I was there. The only was friendly and so were the other staff but I agree with previous reviews that the service was somewhat sporadic and the woman serving us was friendly one minute and not so friendly the next time. We also had the lights turned off on us one evening and were left on our own at 9pm. Overall the food was nice and they had a good selection of dishes available.

The location is excellent. Very quiet and calm. The chef is really good and the food was great. The issue is that they are not very organised. They don’t speak english at all. Only the manager speak few words of English. It was impossible to communicate with the rest of the staff. We couldn’t even get a ‘salad fruit’ in the afternoon as a snack, because the only person at the reception didn’t speak any english or french at all, we had to go to the next hotel to get something to eat. The door of our bungalow was broken and no one has been able to fix it. So we slept with the door unlocked for 2 nights. One evening, we were the only guests in the hotel, and just after dinner at 8pm the chef and the waiter turned the light off and they left, leaving us still sitting at the table. One afternoon the only person at the reception was sleeping on the sofa and we had to wake him up in order to get something to drink. Location and food are ok, but very poor managed place.

This is a very good place to stay, especially with kids as beach is very clean and wide. Very calm and they cook very well. All was Ok with our stay there and I would reccommend using Prince Anakao when going to Anakao and Nosy Ve.

I really enjoyed the food after a 4 days half-board stay in another hotel seeking for something good to eat for a change. Well cooked, nicely served and a very friendly waiter. Large choice in the menu also which is not always the case in Anakao. I highly recommenda and hope next time will have the opportunity to test the rooms.

Before I start this property review, I must say that Anakao is a hidden gem but not for every traveller and would not recommend it for families. They lack infrastructures, roads, the beaches have no palm trees or shadow places and the scarce hotels that exist are simple and not luxurious, with few amenities and restaurants with limited choices. I can say this because I had friends staying at the most boutique hotel of Anakao- Ocean Beach Lodge and I wasn't impressed at all as they suffered from the same basic issues. But this is also what probably makes Anakao such a great place to bem, because it is very undeveloped and wild enough to enjoy away from the tourist crowds. First to get here is only possible by a small speedboat (average 1 hour trip, 15€ return, 1 connection only per day usually leaving Toliara at 9.30 am and coming back the next day at 7.30am from Anakao). It might be too much fror those who get sea sick, even if the sea isn't that rough, but anyway doable. Interesting is the fact that to get o the speedboat, you need to go on a Zebu (local ox) cart and that is fun even if hard to hang on! So the 1st stop of the speedboat at Anakao is precisely the Prince Anakao, before moving on to other properties. Hotel is located just 15 minutes on foot from the local fishermen village. The reception was great, with the owner coming to welcome us to the hotel and offering us a juice, promising to help out with any tour or food. Then we were taken to our bungalow, The bungalow is spacious, with a large bed equipped with a mosquito net. There is no air conditioned, power in the bungalow is limited from 6pm to 10.30pm, water pressure is low and wi-fi is available only at the reception. This is the same for all other properties in Anakao, so I can't really rate this property as being worse but at a similar standard. What really made the difference for me was the attention given to us in terms of organizing a tour to the local island of Nosy Ve with snorkelling at a very good price in a local pirogue (25,000 ariary incl. entry fee to the island) that not even the local fishermen could match. Besides that they had no issues in recommending me local places to eat at the village even if they had to offer some very fresh catch of the day or grilled squid. And that's what I liked here - no pressure and there to help you out. And if you want great seafood for a relatively small price (20,000 to 30,000 ariary) then you should head down to the village of Anakao. The hotels aren't getting seafood as the local fishermen are not selling there on purpose in order to attract tourists. And the quality is actually really good and gives you more of a local experience. Make sure you try the "cigales de mer" over the lobster or prawns. My recommendations are Chez Clovis and Hantao (where a smal grocery is also located). In terms of excursions, Nosy Ve is a must and I would recommend Eric and his pirogue as the skipper. He is curiosly the son of the local priest (no woriies, he will not preach to yoi) and very experienced. He alspo offers picnic meals for half the price of the hotel. In summary, definitely is a place to go if you are into adventure and living it simple, not looking into any extras. And Prince Anakao is a great value for money, greatly located in a quiet place away from the village whilst still being close enough to enjoy a meal por just stroll around.

The way we arrived was unique. We had to catch a boat to Anakao but as it was a very low tide at the time of departure we had to ride on an ox cart to the speed boat! The return journey we had the same experience to get to shore! We were the only ones staying so we were very well looked after. The room was basic but clean and comfortable The main negative point is there is no power for a majority of the day and night! We had power for 2-3 hours in the evening if we were lucky. Remember to bring a torch! The hotel is on a good beach and we enjoyed our walks along it and seeing how the local fishing village live. This is not suitable to everybody we are seasoned travellers.

Our final destination after a hectic action packed two weeks in Madagascar We spent two nights here and it was just beautiful. We were the only two guests as we went in cyclone season (not a cyclone to be seen) but the weather was amazing around 30degrees The bungalow was on the beach, very clean and spacious, the view was amazing over to Nosey Ve Island which we sailed over to for some snorkelling. Michele the owner of the hotel was very friendly and made us feel most welcome and the food was amazing It was just so peaceful and relaxing and actually quite nice for a change that there wasn't any internet connection and we were able to just relax and watch the world go by When the tide is out you can walk out a long way, lots of shells to collect and a lot of the locals were catching fish and octopus Definitely a place to visit if you just want to real and chill out

Spacious individual huts consisted of 2 bedrooms and an extremely large, but sparse bathroom. High ceilings. Mosquito netting with holes and one window that did not contain screens. Good hot water. Wifi and electricity only available 6-10 pm but in-room torches are provided. Beautiful beach although vendors can be a bit irritating. Good food including fish caught that day.
