My mate and I stayed here for two nights and loved our experience here. Col cannot be any friendlier and helpful to make your experience better. My mate forgot to bring gloves and water and he gave us both! Then he and his wife told us where to get a great dinner and set up a reservation for us. Really... More

Little motel type (not really boutique) accommodation where we were given a quiet self-contained unit. We didn’t want to cook and make the kitchen dirty, although there was a complete kitchen, so the owner agreed for one-night stay. Our own breakfast box came in handy; we were able to buy some milk just in time before the small grocery shop... More

We were in the country for a month tour, and this place was by far the most "rustic" we visited...a word that apparently means old and outdated. The owner was a jolly, helpful fellow, which is the reason for rating the place average...it wasn't average compared to other places we stayed in NZ, and the price was not a bargain.... More

We spent a couple of nights at Tongariro Crossing Lodge. The apartment was well set-up and had everything we needed. It had a bit of a rustic feeling that was a perfect match with the environment. The owners were extremely nice and helpful throughout our stay. There is a little garden at the back where kids can run and burn... More

Great place to stay. The owner, Col, couldn't be more helpful. The rooms are furnished beautifully with elegance and charm. There is a very useful kitchen and a drying room for the winter months. In summer there are lots of great treks to do.

We came from Auckland by train (Kiwi Scenic) which took about six hours. We arrived one hour late and we were pleasantly surprised that Cole (Colin), the owner of the lodge, came and picked us up here. This was just the beginning of an amazing stay. Our executive room (a suite) in the lodge was very comfortable (very good mattress)... More

The combination of price and website description lead us to expect a lot from the "Executive Suite" we booked but we were a bit disappointed. Having said that, it was OK for a couple of nights. On the plus side the bed was very comfortable and the heating provided does keep the place warm. The optional breakfast looked a bit... More

Four of us stayed after a long day skiing. We had two seperate large rooms with ensuites, a little lounge room and a little kitchen. It was like a little miners cottage. Very cute! It was very warm with lots of heaters. Bathrooms were very very clean! The bed linen and towels were great quality. And the beds and pillows... More

I stayed two days/nights in this place. Great atmosphere, very nice room and excellent breakfasts. The place is run by extremely helpful people; Jimmy and his parents. They picked me up from the busstop, brought me to the start of a short track nearby, gave information about tracking in the National Park, about transport, where to have diner, etcetera. Even... The accommodations at the Lodge are simple and rustic, as befits a national park. Our room was large and came with shared cooking facilities. Like many people who come to the park, we hoped to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, said to be one of the most spectacular hikes in New Zealand. Unfortunately, even though it was summer (early March),... More
