  "If you ever wondered how it'd be like to live in one of those hundreds years looking small Italian houses, then you'd have to stay at this place.. The place where we stayed was like a tiny apartment. We'd go up on a small red ladder to the bedroom loft. The whole idea was so new and interesting..." to us, and the bedroom section was very nice & clean. The owner was extremely friendly! This town (Rocchetta Nervina) is really, really beautiful and it has a gorgeous hiking trail in the canyon. We found this place just on our way from one destination to another, but this town actually became one of our favorite memories in this entire trip. It was especially nice b/c we were a little tired from other cities that were too touristic and no real Italian experiences. Just a couple of things to note: The owner writes very good English in the emails, but in person, we had to communicate in French; The breakfast at this place is different from other B&Bs.   "We stayed two nights at the end of April. Both the town itself and this small osteria were intimate and friendly. We stayed in the somewhat larger lavender room, which was spacious yet had a cozy feel. Very comfortable memory foam bed. Bathroom a bit small, but new, avant garde, and well laid ou..."t . Meals were fabulous. Simona, the proprietor, cooks and her friend Valentina serves. Between my poor French and Simona's limited but adequate English we had some wonderful conversations. If you are looking for a Holiday Inn, go to one. If you want to try and imagine living in one of these ancient small towns for a day or two, this is the way and the place to do it. We spent out first afternoon sipping espresso in the square, watching the world ( or a tiny part of it) go by. La Pecora Nera, and Rocchetta Nervina generally, are places to walk.   "Neat rooms, great food, nice people"
  "La Pecora Nera was a great first stop during our trip to Italy (Cinque Terre, Alpi Apuane, Tuscany). We picked it because it is located in Rochetta Nervina, which is less than an hour from the coastal highway and close to famous hicking trails, freshwater natural pools, and other historic villages (..."eg Apricale). La Pecora Nera couldn't have been better as a resting spot. Our room was clean and quiet, and the food was some of the best we've had in Italy. The antipasti were generous, with about half a dozen little dishes, and so were the primi and secundi (wild boar and deer). The people working there were always helpful and enthusiastic. They recommended a good local wine to go with the meal, was well as a hicking trail that ended up being one of our funnest and prettiest in Italy. We were there late April and highly recommend it for that period (although, apparently it gets very busy from June to August).
