Staff were a little inexperienced with foreign passports but a little patience goes a long way. We speak Putonghua and Teochew so no problems for us. On this note, should anyone need a Putonghua or Teochew speaking driver, our driver is from this town and is familiar with the area.   "Intention was to visit my ancestral village, Longzai cun. Was recommended this hotel in Chaoan as it is not far from my village. One of the better hotels in that area. It is locally rated 4 stars. The room rates are low. The rooms that we booked are large and generally clean. The beds are comfortab..."le. Rooms come with free wifi. Do not expect western style breakfast though they do try to cater on request. Most days the hotel caters local buffet breakfast but on some days they do have timsums which are quite good. Not much to see in Chaoan. However is about one hour drive to the city of Teochew and half an hour to Shantou. The hotel can be a good base to explore the other cities if you have similar purpose as mine. There are many eateries around the hotel ranging from restaurants to local foodstalls that served very good teochew food. " More >
