  "After my husband and I and our two boys were greeted with a warm welcome from Karen, (who we instantly felt we'd known for years), we piled into her jeep, and after a quick stop at the grocery store for a cold Ting, we were delivered to Vanilla Hill. My first thought on arrival was "how am I eve..."r going to leave this place"? Carriacou is the kind of place that gently and quietly reminds you that there is more to life than tablets and screens, cell phones and stress and presents a somewhat idyllic alternative...real life! Vanilla Hill, with it's understated elegance and every creature comfort was better than I could have imagined. I've never enjoyed cooking as much as I did in that kitchen. But the most special memories are of my family and I just "liming"....taking long walks, enjoying the endless deserted beaches and coming home to "the hill" to watch the sun go down.   "What an amazing place! Dave, the manager, was very helpful in responding to my initial queries, which were multiple, as well as planning alternative day trips to where we wanted to go! Once we got there, which was very far away on the other side of the island and pretty much in the middle of nowhere...", so getting food supplies or even restaurants was a struggle! The room however was a very interesting experience, with everything (kitchen, shower, toilet, bedroom) in the same "square". It felt very local! The water did not really heat up, but that was ok since it was quite hot outside. The big mosquito net was adequate and very helpful as there were a lot of things buzzing around. The 'windows' did not fully open or close, and it is easy for others to see inside where it would not close. You could hear everything from outside, which was a bit annoying (too) early in the morning, with birds and goats being noisy. We had a minibar fridge, little stove and a tiny grill too.   "My mother and I spent 10 days in Carriacou and we stayed at the Grand View Hotel. When I first saw the pictures I wasn't expecting much but when I got there I was plesently surprised.I believe that this hotel has the best view on the island from the top floor. I spent a lot of time just watching the..." ocean and every night enjoyed the sunset. The people who own and operate the place are very friendly and caring. We had a nice breakfst every morning. They also offered lunch and dinner which is local cuisine. By the way, this is the only hotel on the island with a pool. It was really nice to come in from the ocean and walk right into the pool for a refreshing dip! The only reason that I didn't give this a perfect score is because the beds are a little stiff. I preffer softer beds. However, it was still managable for me. And would definately stay here again. " More >
