  "We stayed at the Mercure in Essen for 3 nights on a business trip and I thought it was a very good experience. Firstly I cannot praise enough the service standard in the hotel. It gets 5 stars for service. Every member of staff was very friendly, competent and helpful. The room is fine, here it show..."s that it is a little dated, thin carpet on concrete, black furniture. The bathroom is small but got a good bath. If you take a shower you will water your bathroom. The squeeze bottle shower gel and soap is a lot nicer than in the Sheraton accross the road. Towels are a bit flimsy, old and small. The bed is fine, the mattress a little uneven and the pillow a bit too tough for my taste. The duvet was just a joke. A smallish single duvet is too small and heavy. Get a lighter and larger duvets please. Most rooms face a busy road and you cannot have the window open because of the noise.
