It is always an experience taking the antique "cage" elevator to the upper floors. Plan to walk down unless you call for someone from the front desk to meet you and operate the elevator. The creaky uneven floors, worn carpets, odd pieces of furniture and memorabilia all add to the charm of this very old hotel. But the beds are very comfortable, cable TV in the room and Internet access. ( Not all rooms have bathrooms ) But try not to spend too much time in your room. The lobby with fireplace is charming and weather permitting sit in a rocking chair on their large front porch. Right on Main Street in Stockbridge. The property is lovely and the big covere..."d porch on the cottage where we stayed allowed rocking safe from the rain while observing hummingbirds, robins and cardinals just a few feet away. The cottage room was spacious and lovely. A very peaceful setting, convenient for day trips (Edith Wharton's estate, The Manor, is just down the road, and the wonderful Mass MOCA museum about an hour away).
