After 45 years, there were fewer people, therefore there were fewer amenities, such as restaurants and supplies. But the Airport and Hospital has been greatly improved. After some thought I was afraid that might be longer than we would want to stay, but at the end of 8 days we knew any less time would have not been enough time to really enjoy the Island and all the really nice people we met. Everyone went out of their way to speak and wave to us. We were fortunate to meet Basil, the owner of Enricas and two of his brothers, all really great people. Our room was very nice and well maintained, and Beverly (the manager) saw to our every needs, including making arrangements for us to go on our tour to the Morton Salt Co., wild Donkey's and the Flamingo's, which was such a good time, something everyone should see. Nothing was too muc..."h trouble for them and we enjoyed them enormously There is a lovely small beach only 5 minutes walk away in town and we met lots of local residents who were keen to welcome us to their island. We were given a wonderful tour of the island by Henry, the local wildlife warden and policeman and saw thousands of flamingoes and other birds. The only disappointment was not seeing any of the wild donkeys that live on the island. The salt flats and mountain were interesting and we enjoyed the whole tour. Great Inagua is definitely worth visiting - the flights from Nassau are not daily but you will visit the real Bahamas and get a very warm welcome. " More >
