    The renowned castle architect Todo Takatora built Uwajima Castle in 1601, and it later became the residence of the 9th generation of the Date Clan. The main keep was reconstructed around 1666 by the 2nd lord of the Date clan and is one of the 12 remaining castles with an original keep. It has become a symbol of the city of Uwajima. The decorative gables and ornaments are believed to symbolize an era of peace.The design elements of the palace architecture are visible throughout, despite its relatively small size. The hill the castle sits atop is a National Historical Site, and the three-tiered keep is designated as an Important Cultural Property.     Minato Oasis Uwajima Kisaiyahiroba Roadside Station is a center of culture in Uwajima. The term "Kisaiya" (meaning "please come") is from the dialect of Japanese used in southern Ehime Prefecture. Here, you can find a shopping area with a wide variety of local products from Uwajima, including citrus fruits, fresh seafood from the Uwa Sea, and Uwajima's specialty, jakoten (deep-fried fish cake). There is also a food court where you can taste Uwajima taimeshi (sea bream and rice), a local speciality. The roadside station also offers a wide selection of products from Royce', a chocolate factory located in Uwajima's sister city, Tobetsu, in Hokkaido. At the Ushioni Museum, visitors can see the mythical "Ushioni" (cow demon), and at the "Pearl Museum", visitors can learn about Uwajima's history and culture, including its pearl industry.

    The Nametoko Gorge is a scenic area that stretches from Uwajima to Matsuno, Kitauwa, both in Ehime Prefecture. Designated as part of the Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park, Nametoko offers lush greenery in the summer and beautiful foliage in the fall. The approximately 12-kilometer-long valley is characterized by smooth granite riverbeds formed by erosion. Visitors can experience the grandeur of nature as they watch the waters flow over giant monolithic rocks. Yukiwa Falls, a symbol of Nametoko Gorge, flows over a giant monolithic rock at a width of 20 meters and a length of 80 meters.     Nanrakuen is the largest traditional Japanese garden in Shikoku and was selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Urban Parks in 1989. The garden features a central pond that is great for strolling around. Nanrakuen showcases a variety of modern landscaping techniques and is decorated with various plants and flowers that bloom throughout the seasons, such as cherry blossoms and azaleas in spring, and irises and hydrangeas in summer.
