An hour's drive to the coast (the continuation of the Great Ocean Road), to the Grampians mountain range and to South Australia, the area has a wide and varied experience on offer! The Tarrington area is a picturesque, undulating landscape. The township named as Hochkirk by its German founders in 1853, changed its name to Tarrington in 1916 due to world events at the time. It has maintained a strong and proud German heritage. The town boasts one of the best cafe/restaurants in the district, Cafe Catalpa, which is family owned and operated and is only 4km from "Pierrepoint". The Cellar Door is open every day from 11am - 6pm unless the closed signs on the Highways are out when the Visitor Information Centres will be notified. We offer Estate grown wines together with wines from Regional Growers including a wide range of local produce. The Cellar Door has been placed in the end of one of the original farm sheds and was part of the original Winery. Open every day, it offers home made cakes, "Mocopan Bruno Rossi" espresso coffee, "Tea Blossom" & the local,"Simply Teatime" teas and a variety of local produce including a range of local wines. Pierrepoint Cellar Door has a north easterly aspect capturing the sunshine and overlooking the numerous breeds of poultry wandering amongst the vines. Besides the rear of the house, guests are welcome to wander around the garden, farm and vineyard (after sterilising the soles of their shoes!) including the cellar door. less
