Great food! Do not miss its Nata and bollería. There are tasty vegetarian dishes hidden in the menú, like the dos quesos soup. The best: an old and charming gentleman playing nostalgic "piezas" in an old fashioned piano. You can ask him to play music from Agustin LAra (Granada) or La Violetera, remembering the great Sarita Montiel.

Its popular and crowded on the weekend brunch. The restaurant is obviously a famous spot for both tourists and locals but its a bit dated and seems mediocre compared to some of the other spots nearby.

El Cardenal was recommended by 3 different friends, so we needed to go. It was a really good breakfast. The service not so good, since It was really full.

Great breakfast food, authentic mexican, excellent service and decent prices. Fresh juices and real hot chocolate. Always a lineup so make sure you either have a reservation or arrive early. Valet parking is great, but need to collect your car underground - ask the waitstaff & they will direct you.

If you truly want to discover authentic Mexican food, you can't miss El Cardenal on your next visit to México City. They are open for lunch, but Mexicans tend to eat late, so go around 2 pm or it will be empty. The Lomas restaurant, on Avenida Palmas, is a nice alternative to the Zocalo original, and more convenient to... More

Excellent service, sublime food, and a fantastic location all make El Cardenal a fantastic place to dine. My dining experience was top notch! From the Sopa Rancho through the filete de res en salsa verde to the postre of bananas in caramel sauce, my meal was excellent, served with flair and overall I had an excellent dining experience. The restaurant... More

Went there for early dinner (they close at 6pm) and for breakfast. Their breads are excellent. The hot chocolate is good - not too sweet and not too thick as the Spanish one.

This is great traditional cooking in an elegant setting with reasonable prices. You can tell from the moment you sit down at a table that a lot of thought goes into both the food and the service. When I'm in Mexico City, I always visit El Cardenal. Can't say enough.

We had excellent abalone ceviche here, I haven't had abalone for about 50 years because it's incredibly expensive when I do find it available. That was my meal highlight for the entire trip to Mexico (10 days). We happened on the Cardenal by accident, we just looked in the restaurant window (which looked clean and cozy), scanned the menu (reasonable... More
