Visited lunch time on 19 May 2013.
The restaurant is in a great location in the heart of the city but it left me a little disappointed. My wife had a vegetarian risotto and I have to say it was good - she let me taste some :-) But it was not the same for the Tarte Flambe.
For those...

Not sure why I did not have high hopes but this was really excellent. I had the daily special of hake which was perfectly cooked. Service friendly. A bit tight for space but nothing really to complain about. Will definitely go back
It's a nice place. On a warm day you can eat outside here in a lively square off LIverpool Street. Today was cool so we ate inside instead. The room is modern, with wood and steel decor, pleasant service, the table cloth was a strip of brown paper fixed over the wooden table. White linen napkins. It's clean and neat....

I was a bit concerned that I would not be able to find the right sort of restaurant to satisfy my dear wife's hunger pangs. But we got it just right at this place. Definitely a worthy candidate for great value when looking for a romantic dinner - the food was excellent (the wine menu also seemed tempting) and the service impeccable. Highly recommended.
Great place to just pop in and eat. Some of my family live nearby, so it's a frequent spot for us in Spitalfields. The asparagus with quails eggs and hollandaise is brilliant ... the portion is a good size too ... pity it's seasonal.
Warm welcome. Complementary cocktail. To be somewhat picky, it was a bit heavy for a lunch time apero. Good, well cooked and presented food although nothing overly imaginative. But then, it's not holding itself out as a gourmet experience. Good quality and value Vins de Saison. Lovely service. Would all restaurants that think they know how to serve a couple...

it seems many people just book the larger Galvin La Chapelle not realising that the Cafe a Vin is an integrated part of the same building. The food is equally good and the selection not minimalised so it is possible to enjoy a really good evening in a great location for the City. Go for it!
Visited in Feb 2013 with my husband and ate from the 'fixed menu'. Obviously because of that the options were limited but what we chose was well presented and tasted good. The wine was just OK - not great - I chose a 'middle range' wine price wise and expected a little better than I got; given that the restaurant...
