The Chequers serves excellent food coupled with unobtrusive service. Salt & Pepper squid definitely highly recommended as is the woodland pork chop.

This place was too good. We ended up booking in here as the restaurant we had intented to go to was fully booked on Saturday night. I'm SO glad we came here instead!! What a find! The staff were really welcoming and friendly - especially our waiter, who kept the banter going (but changed his attitude to match his guests)... More

I had eaten here a few years ago and it was ok, nothing to rave about. Was struggling to find a last minute Saturday evening reservation in town but managed to get a booking here. Wasn't expecting much but was completely blown away. The menu was really exciting, the food looked and tasted amazing. Can't wait to find an excuse... More

Went to The Chequers for dinner with my brother and his girlfriend, the relaxed downstairs restaurant was busy, but we were promptly seated and drinks ordered were taken quickly and delivered efficiently! The service was fantastic but the real star of the show is the food, expertly cooked Haunch of Venison was the highlight of my meal, and every dish... More

We had a family get together and the Restaurant were more than happy to reserve us a table on our chosen day (Saturday). We had a 6 year old child with us and a guest who had certain dietary requirements. The Waiter was very attentive and disscussed at length our options showing his knowlege in the food that was to... Have always enjoyed Chequers Bath for a really traditional Sunday lunch. We booked with some friends for this Sunday. Sorry be not the standard we have had in the past. Small portion of beef, hard roast potatoes, beetroot as a vegetable which I've not had with a roast. But the whole plate was covered with a thick, gelatinous commercial tasting... More

If used to evening visits try the Chequers for a mid week lunch .There is a great two course offer for £12 offer and not too crowded.A bit of local pay and display parking or a short walk from the city centre. On to the menu my meal was an excellent chicken live pate scotch egg with brioche, followed by... More

The restaurant is always fully booked so you need to book in advance to avoid disappointment. The restaurant has 2 floors and we were on the second floor. The environment is quite nice and warm, the waiters are very polite and professional. I tried the 30 day aged steak and calamari which are both really good although chicken liver paste... More

Had a lovely Sunday lunch...nice that we could book online via Top Table. Good friendly service. Roast potatoes a bit tough on the outside but apart from that a lovely meal. Oh and the cabbage was lovely. Will definately return.
