Well worth the walk down the dark lane to find this Gem of a pub. Great service and food, staff were friendly and a lovely pub with no frills. A proper pub and a great way to spend a quiet evening.

Really nice atmosphere- friendly staff- very much a local feel. But- cooking was poor. The cooks had tried to provide modern, mediterranean style food but it felt as tho they had read the recipes with no real idea of what the result should be,.hummus worse than supermarkets own, and venison casserole was flabby meat in tasteless thin sauce. Perhaps they... More

We came for lunch mid-week around 1:30pm The pub itself is lovely, full of character and based around two rooms with 4-6 tables in each. The beer and cider collection is of good quality - however no options in terms of wine. The real disappointment was the poor service and apparent inability to provide food for more than three tables... More

A place I promise to visit more often as it is quite special in its own quirky way. Very old, very simple, a real experience and one of the few places you can get Cheddar Valley cider, the most wonderful beverage on the planet.

We popped in for lunch today, not knowing what to expect, and were greeted by two friendly members of staff. We liked the simplicity of the menu and the cosiness of the fireside table. We like an unpretentious pub, the garden was Autumnal and lovely. Food very well priced for a no-frills pub, and everything seemed homemade. My husband loved... More

This used to be a great Pub for food, drink/atmosphere/service. Now it is dirty, and the service nothing short of rude/ridiculous! We asked for more cutlery and were told they had 'no more spoons' we asked for a glass of water and told they had no more glasses, we were told (when we were still eating outside) that they were... This is a wonderful pub, but please don't bother if you are expecting high-end gourmet food and a "tourist experience". I've been drinking here for 35 years and it remains what it is - a cider pub with a nice garden, and reliably yummy pub grub. You come to the Packhorse for the cider, the historic 400 year old building,... More

We were walking through some countryside around Bath, and discovered this wonderful pub. Set in a beautiful building, the Packhorse's atmosphere was really nice - it's not ornately decorated, but as the building is so wonderful, the architecture makes for a great surrounding to eat. There is a large choice of ciders, and we were even offered the choice to... More

My elderly mother, four sisters, and I were staying near the charming village of South Stoke and decided to eat dinner at the Packhouse Inn. We seemed to be the only dining customers that weekday evening. The menu is almost fine dining, and the results were delicious. My eggplant casserole served with wild rice was wonderful. The others were equally... More

Great range of real ciders and ales. Ate in the evening off a small but interesting menu. Had the pomegranate glazed kebabs which were lush! Service was, for a pub, good, though erratic at times. Overalk a very pleasant evening
