It is a cozy restaurant. We got there around 3pm so there were only few other tables taken. Staff was OK, our seafood platter was very good. Pricey. We liked it very much, overall and had a very good time.
The food was well below average - totally overcooked smoked lobster in a bland risotto, grit in the scallops, terrible cheeseboard (which the waiting staff could only describe as 'Scottish' when asked what the selection was) and the rudest most pompous manager I have come across in years. Avoid.
This meal was pricy, but the menu certainly sounded the business and the food certainly looked it, The flavours were the uncertain things. Display, Pass, Delivery, Fail. At £100 for a meal for two, with just one bottle of wine, it was 25% higher than I would expect to pay at much better restaurants in Leith. The staff were friendly,...

I would recommend the ship, the food was fantastic there were four of us and we all had something different and we all loved what we had, the service was great and we all thought it was great value for money. If I had one little niggle it would be that the food was served a little to quickly but...

Had a great lunch with the family. Good service (baby and pram made welcome) and great food accompanied by chilled champagne and a fine Zinfandel. Lobster was well cooked and the fudge cheesecake devine! Bombe Alaska a disappointment though. Terrific place would certainly go back.
We went here for a romantic evening meal for my wife's birthday. We had lobster which was rubbery and not well cooked at all. The service was ok but when we asked for the bill, there were 2 drinks on there that we didnt have totalling an extra £38!!!
I asked for the bill to be corrected and the bar...

I've been there on lunch just because I was passing by and the menu attracted me.. The waitress was very cold and put me on a corner maybe because I was alone. I ordered oysters and then the clam and fish chowder.. Service was really fast, too much fast!! The plates looked anyway good. They didn't pay too much attention...

The Ship on the Shore over many years has become one of our very favourite fish restaurants when in Edinburgh. Never been disappointed, never had a bad or even poor meal. The food is consistantly of an exceptionally high quality. The restaurant is always buzzing whilst at the same time a relaxed place to eat. Overall a cosy atmosphere. Apart...

Ate here on Saturday night and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was relaxed and everyone around seemed to be enjoying their visit. The food was great (in particular the Cullen Skink and the special Lemon Sole) and the choice of wines was fab. Would recommend this place for a nice relaxing meal with good food and a really warm atmosphere.
