Didn't really know what too expect, but thought it was time to spoil myself. So I did. Tiny but cozy and open place inside the Midland Hotel with an unexpected interior design. Stylish but friendly and comforting. Hospitality already starts at the hotel door, as the Doorman kindly accompanies you to the restaurant and introduces you to the maitre d'.... More

Our 6-course taster menu was a triumph. The most memorable course was the ox in coal oil. Succulent, delicate morsels of carpaccio, with sunflower seeds and buttons of kohlrabi. Coal oil, apparently hot coals dipped in grape oil, then filtered, adds a smoky flavour to the dish. Even the least exciting, Reg's duck, was very good. L'Enclume has never been... More

Had 17 courses at L'Enclume 3 weeks before in an evening, so was glad to see not as many (although it was lunch time). Had the 6 course lunch menu, every taste was interesting or surprising as it wouldn't be quite what we were expecting but all wonderful. The beef dish was fantastic, they were all worth going for. The food was great with highly inventive tasty treats. Some unusual but good flavour combinations. I was expecting good food and got it. The only slight downside was the location. It's Ok but just a bit odd. The decor is nice but furniture doesn't feel right. It's like any moment someone is going to come in to do a presentation... More

There's very little for me to say that hasn't already been said about this place, but I had to reiterate everyone else's comments. The food really is that good and I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. I've never eaten in a Simon Rogan restaurant before but after visiting The French, I have L'Enclume firmly in my sights. My... More

We've eaten at L'enclume twice and wondered how The French would compare...blimey, it was good. The 10 course tasting menu and wine flight is something any self respecting foodie should save their pennies for. The balance, flavour, texture, attention to detail and variation of crockery is a worthwhile piece of gastronomic art. Add to that the attention of the enthusiastic... More

We've been to L'Enclume so were pleased to hear that Simon Rogan was taking on the French Restaurant at the Midland. It's long overdue a top quality restaurant in Manchester. As it's only been open a couple of months we wondered how it would compare. We went last night and had the 10 course tasting menu and found the whole... More

We go to L'Enclume fairly regularly and were excited it learn Simon was opening in Manchester, much closer to home. We wondered how it would be, as it has only been open for 8 weeks, but we found it pretty bloody good. We had the 10 course tasting menu and found the whole experience from the food to the service... The best way to read this, is that if I haven’t mentioned too much about a certain dish, then you can take it that it was awesome and I don’t want to spoil it for you! I will only mention the questionable or the truly outstanding. It is fair to say that I am a massive fan of Simon Rogan... More
