It takes a while to understand how it works. You can sit if you find a free table and order directly to their staff (not use to crowds and with the bad face on). Or you can pre-order and pre-pay to take away on a quite long tourists line. Pastéis are excellent though!

This is one of the main reasons why people travel to Belem and despite the other UNESCO heritage sights, these ancient recipe custard tarts are worth the trip in themselves. The shop usually has a huge queue outside- that's mostly for takeaways. Go in the left hand side of the door through the restaurant which has 3 sections- a small... More

This is a touristic place with lots of fame, because is the old house of the famous cake. The natas are much better in lots of other places, the service is very bad, the tiles are very nice. You must visit, don't wait in the queue, seat inside and order there Very cheap

Its all been said below - this is THE place to go for great custard tarts (and lots more besides)! It is very popular so the queue for the take away counter can be down the street. If you want to avoid this, take a seat inside. There are 50 plus tables, many of which are hidden around one corner... More

Seeing the line to this place from the tourist bus we thought if given the chance we need to stop in and try the famous pastry. When we went the line was not too bad and we decided to order for take away. The counter staff was friendly enough, though one was distracted by a customer who was arguing with... More

Yes, they are the best. No question. Yes, it is worth standing in line (it was not bad: line moves fast). Yes, you will eat more than one. And yes, they are much much better than anywher else. Period.

I'll be brief on this one! so big it's like a factory. and they make pasteis that are very common. I tried others in different "bakeries" and they were much better with greater flavours. You can taste them of course but be sure to look for another bakery. And NEVER try their millefeuille, so dry you can choke on it!

You can get Pasteis de Nata in many places in Lisbon, however, Casa Pasteis De Belem is one of the best. The tarts are not much more expensive than somewhere else When you buy a take-away you get icing sugar and cinnamon with it and when you decide to stay in, you should definitely get the look at the production... If you are in Lisbon you must visit this place! You can read all about these cakes and believe anything, but once you taste them, it's something entirely else. Believe me! I am not for sweets, but these cakes are heavenly! Now I could travel to Portugal just for these cakes! So delicious! They are crisp, warm, sweet, slightly salty... More

Go to the back of the cafe where the main seating areas are, don't queue in line for hours at the front. Its very busy and a little impersonal but lovely custard tarts, a little better than those that can be found all over Lisbon.
