I only drank here, so can't really comment on food or service. But you know it's a great pub as you walk through the door - it looks and feels great and is just the thing on a cold winter night. First impression further confirmed by a very respectable range of Cumbrian ales. Decor is great in an odd kind... More

Built 1612. The Hole in't Wall is the oldest pub in Bowness, and it derives its name from the small window through which ale was once passed to servants watching over their masters' horses outside in the yard. Is charming to sit in and have a drink by the fire, it has kept it's traditional chrarm. We didn't eat there... More

The building looks lovely and seemed like the place to visit judging by reviews on TA. How wrong they are. The pub was full which we hoped was a good sign but generally grubby, we should of legged it when we saw the graffitti on the bathroom walls and the signs warning against selling drugs on the premises, and the... We visited the Hole in't Wa again, our favourite in Ambleside, and weren't disappointed. The grub was good Pub fare and the beer especially good. The ambiance is what makes it here and our friends, who were accompanying us for the first time, were pleased with the place. The Pub is a grand place to shelter from the British weather... More

We went to this pub for lunch yesterday as we were in Bowness purely based on the reviews on this site. I have never been let down by trip advisors reviews before, but certainly was this time. My Companion had the steak and ale pie which was of such a blistering temperature it must have been super heated in a... More

This is a great little pub tucked away in Bowness. Very cosy inside and a good range of real ales and traditional ciders. The food menu is traditional homemade pub grub - very tasty! The decor is really quirky and you feel really tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the town. We had a great meal here and... More

Brilliant, Fantastic atmosphere and a great smell of food, so we ate... BBQ ribs (on specials board) but a proper man size helping and loads of sauce just great value for money and well cooked. A super selection of ales and some live music. Definitely worth a visit if your up in the Lakes, we will be going back...!

This is without doubt the best pub in town. Real ales ,real food real atmosphere and in winter a fantastic real open fire. Be quick though as the seats near the fire are prime. If you don't visit and enjoy a few relaxed real English beers you'll have missed a treat.

Four of us decided to go for lunch after read the reviews. It’s a lovely place, traditional and old. There are stuffed animals (rabbits, foxes etc. around the room also a potty or two hanging from the beams). The butter chicken curry meal was excellent. It was a lovely meal, delicious and tasty. My husband was disappointed with the fish... More

If your looking for a traditional pub with loads of character, serving excellent food, then 'Hole in t wall' is the place. Staff are very friendly too. My husband and I opted for the 'lamb henry' and it was a delicious, filling meal. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.
