The food here is outstanding and so too are the staff. When you first arrive it feels as if you are going to eat in somebody else's living room, which is a bit odd; but don't be put off by that. The cooking here is stunning (similar to Clooneys in Auckland), but the whole ambience is far more relaxed and,... More

The owner who happened to also be our waiter was most attentive, accomodating, very efficient and naturally, had a thorough knowledge of everything on the menu. He was most accomodating making us feel very much at home. Service was awesome. The food was wonderful and totally appealing giving us a great gourmet dining experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant... More

Truly excellent food cooked by world-class chefs. Wait staff are knowledgeable about the origins of all the food on the menu, how it's been prepared, and what wine to drink with it. Quite pricey, and the portions are not massive, so you might want to consider a side, or two, but you won't be disappointed by the quality.

After being recommended to this restaurant from the very nice hotel we stayed at in Wgtn we were highly disappointed. The food was okay at best, and the service was lacking in all aspects. Service seemed uninterested, entree plates left on the table even once mains served. 4 tables around us left dirty and not cleared once patrons left. Very... More

This week my partner and i enjoyed a wonderful meal at Ambeli. We eat out a lot in Wellington, but I can confidently say that this would be the best restaurant I have eaten at in Wellington. The service is excellent. The waiting staff are very attentive, yet leave you alone so that you can have some privacy. I had... More

I loved our dinner at this great little restaurant - cosy, intimate atmosphere, open fire, interesting menu - I devoured the seared duck breast - just perfect. Eclectic and extensive wine list. The only shortcoming was the waitress - whilst perfectly good at carrying out her duties didn't seem to be quite in sinc with the high level of the... More

We visited Ambeli for dinner recently on a weekend visit to Wellington. It is located just around the corner from the Embassy Cinema (of Hobbit fame) in what looks like an old shop front. The layout and interior are cosy but not at all pretentious. We were shown to a window table which allowed us to watch the passersby and... More

Very disappointing. Seems to have changed hands or was in January holiday mode. Nowhere near as buzzy and well run as on previous visits: wait staff did not seem to be up to the job. Food was disappointing and some of it had been standing around. Hope this was a one off.

Dinner at this restaurant is a must if you are passing through wellington. The service was excellent, the food was fantastic and the wine was lovely. We had a very enjoyable evening and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is a foodie! We wanted to try the entire menu.

We ate at Ambeli on the night of the Hobbit premier. The food is very interesting with lots of unusual flavours and combinations. We found the wine to be very expensive - one of the most expensive I have experienced in New Zealand. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable.
