I've been to Ambeli half a dozen times, and it's always been great. For me, the service is just right. Not too intrusive, and not too eager. The servings are small, but perfectly formed. Seasonal, fresh and high end ingredients are used to full effect. It's not a cheap evening at all, but it is worth it.

Cosy little cottage with fireplace. Staff very welcoming, amuse bouche was yummy, gluwein with duckliver foam, left the foamy bit! The menu was amazing, quite pricey, but definitely worth it. My partner is not into "fine dining" and was not looking forward to it at all, in fact, would have liked to leave after he saw the prices! Luckily he... More

Had heard this was a really good place to eat. Right from the beginning the service was poor, with inattentive wait staff. Fellow dining companion had their dish whisked away before they were finished and nearly happened after the main as well. Very pricey for what we got and I would have expected the presentation to be a lot more... More

Me and partner went here on my birthday recently. I definitely had high expectations due to it being #1 on many restaurant reviews and here in tripadvisor. We had the bread selection and oysters for starters and for mains had the fish in risotto and angus fillet. There wasn't anything wrong with them nor was there a wow factor either.... More

First tiwearers and recommended by all friends who have been. The food was fabulous, the service good and it was a great atmosphere. The only downside was no wheat free options for the cheeseboard which we would have otherwise shared so skipped this. Pretty good wine list but not that extensive for NZ wines. Will definitely return.

Food: Excellent, exciting and innovative - except for bread rolls which were tough and doughy. Wine: (BE WARNED) Expensive, but excellent range if you are willing to pay. In my opinion, there is really too much of a mark-up and it would have been nice to have a choice of some more reasonably priced options. Venue: Warm and inviting. Furniture... More

The food and service were of high quality; for entree I had a beetroot salad which was full of flavor and fresh. For mains I had lamb, which was enjoyable, but not outstanding. I also shared a dessert (chocolate praline) which again was excellent but not outstanding. Overall, it was a nice dinner with good ambiance and service. If I... More

Enjoyed a great meal here after a days hard toil. Just off the end of courtney place easy walking from the bars and cafes. Very good food and good wine selection. Attentive service (possibly a little too much). Reasonably expensive $NZ250 for two incluing $NZ80 bottle wine. All courses had a variey of flavours that melded together very well. Recommend... More

I have been here once, as I have heard good revies (but also that it was very expensive!) The entrees were amazing, we had a mixed platter. Really great flavours, to be honest the entree was nicer than the main. Steak was pretty average, nothing special. Wasn't as expensive as expected. We went for a family dinner and had a... More
