Went here on a weekday - early sitting - so no excuses about being overworked. First impressions were of a generous space, dimly lit but acceptable. Went through the menu but as we only wished to have a main meal, the choices were limited. Most of the meat was on the large side for the average eater - (it was... More

We chose the eye fillet - $39. It was dry and had very little flavour. We chose the fillet because the other meat selections were too big for us, for example 500gm. The meat arrived served with a small potato galette which was very undercooked. If you wanted vegetables they were available at an extra $7 - $9 per plate.... More

Quality in service and meat, this no a vegetarian restaurant. But a lover of meat. My wife on a recent trip went for a meal and ate the Pork Belly for entree and I the lamb - both to die for !! Then a huge 500 gram rib eye steak - both cooked to perfection. Wine list is extensive. So... More

Enjoyed a good but expensive - they charge for bread! - meal but were disappointed when the owner lied to us about Australian tipping protocol telling us that 15%-20% is normal. Fortunately, two young ladies at the next table informed us that, since waiters & waitresses are paid $17 - $22/hour, tipping is not expected. As a result, we patronized... More

I thought we would get delicious high quality food here . But what we received was badly cooked, poorly presented and bad value for money. And oh the service! Absolutely dreadful. My cutlery was dropped on my feet , the waiter couldn't answer any questions, meals were bought out to each of us far apart . Dessert was burnt. Main... More

Went here for the first time late last month and had a fantastic meal. I went with a group of people from work and everyone was very happy with their meal. The price is a little on the expensive side but you get what you pay for. Had a few beers and these are not cheap either. Very impressed with... More

The best steak i've ever had. If you don't mind paying for quality, every morsel was tasty. Pork Belly entree was AMAZING. Sides delicious, wine delicious.

Black Cow is not your average 'steak house'. It is one of Launceston's best restaurants and it's prices are at the top end BUT the food & service make it 'value for money'. We've eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. Service is attentive and helpful, steak dishes come with a range of choices of cut, size and... More

Really enjoyed the atmosphere, styling and menu. The staff couldnt have been more helpful. Great wine list. Lotsmof local reds-which inreally enjoyed. Reasonably priced, great sides- particularly the rocket and pinenut which i just could not get enough of. Steak- also local, was really good. Well cooked, great choice of accompanying sauces. Very enjoyable meal

We had been looking forward to this place on our first night in Launceston and had built up a huge appetite walking around town. We are both big steakhouse fans, but in the end the steaks, even the aged ones, were a major letdown and a bit on the oily side to boot. We had expected something melt in the... More
