Description: The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. A bipartisan favorite, we have occupied the nation’s capital since 1995, anchored across from the Verizon Center and around the corner from the International Spy Museum, National Portrait Gallery and Chinatown. Make waves at our racetrack-shaped bar or sup on seafood underneath the hull-like ceiling in our restaurant’s main dining room. Either way, be presidential and order a cup of our New England Clam Chowder; it’s been served at every Inauguration since 1981. Other accolades include “Best Place for Great Seafood” (Washingtonian Magazine, 2008) and “Best Crab Cakes” (Washingtonian Magazine, 2008)

We chose this restaurant for our first night in Washington and it provided a great start to our 4-day stay. The atmosphere is refined and quiet, the menu has a great variety of seafood and a very good wine list. The crab cakes are absolutely delicious. The service was friendly and helpful.

We went here for lunch. It is located in an area where there are lots of places to choose from but Legal Seafood had been recommended by a colleague. It was a great recommendation. The crab cakes were amazing! Hardly any filler, just huge chunks of crab (not the shredded fake stuff you get in some places). Our waitress was... More

I try to eat here whenever I'm in DC -- usually for lunch. I love the crab cakes (best crab cakes I have ever had at any restaurant, IMHO) and the crab bisque. Just can't say enough good about how much I enjoy this place.

Had lunch before going to airport. Only 1 block from subway station. Nice greeting, amiable waitress. Had fried scallops with ff. Were hasty and as good as I have had at Boston area Legals. Would definitely come back. Only caveat was that I think it could be very busy here if an event was taking place at the Verizon Center... More

Having been to Legal Sea Foods branches in Boston and Atlanta on previous trips to America and enjoyed them greatly it was a no-brainer to visit the Washington DC location when I realised they had one. It was a cold and wet Monday night but the welcome was very friendly. We chose to sit in the bar area for a... More

Shocking - the oysters were limp and small, the lobster was rubbery and tasted like it was cooked in a rusty tin can and the clams were yuk. If you need to remove food from your mouth because it tastes so bad than don't bother going to this restaurant - do yourself a favour and find somewhere else.

We think the Legal Seafood brand, at least the DC restaurant we dined in tonight, has suffered some from the last time we ate here. We ordered a fried calamari appetizer that came to the table as a solid mass of fried squid, rather than individual pieces. This was a clear case of kitchen laziness in that the line cook... More

Great food. The reception was slightly rude though, otherwise perfect. I tried the grilled fish - swordfish + salmon and it was good.

Legal is my go to place for seafood in any city that has one. If only they would come to Dallas. We ate at 7th street for both lunch and dinner. The lobsters were bigger than expected, fresh and sweet. The fried clams for lunch were excellent as usual. The chowder was great too.

Dined the over the Memorial Day weekend... Would recommend reservations. We were seated quickly and service throughout was outstanding! Chilean wine list was good... We had the calamari appetizer and the crab cakes dinner... The crab cakes are a must try ! My wife had the trout grilled and that too was great... Will dine here again!
