We ordered a beet salad and calamari, they gave us shrimps. We felt bad so we kept it, huge mistake. It tasted dried out, we didn't even finish it. The waiter was nice and apologized but he charged us $39. U.S. for 12 dry shrimps. Never saw the beet salad. Then we both ordered pasta, thinking that was a safe... More

We were in Punta del Este for a week in early February. We happened upon El Tonel when out for a walk! We had the best food for the most reasonable cost of all the places in which we dined that week. Fish and beef were carefully prepared and delicious. The staff was more than helpful with my wife's celiac... More

So far we've eaten at El Tonel twice and both times we found the service and food very good. Punta del Este is a tourist town and at this time of the year things are just gearing up - restaurants, shops, etc. so there isn't so much choice. We've eaten at other places and found the food and dining experience... More

It has been a long time since I last visited El Tonel, and it has kept the standards and quality, not a fancy restaurante but very good food and reasonable prices for an expensive destination. I had some fish and it was excellent, we can only say good things about the restaurante, one of the best in Punta del Este,... More

El tonel became a classic for Punta since the late 90's, great menu with uruguyan meat "parrilla" (pechito de cerdo, my favorite , sea food, pasta , vegan options ( zucca El Tonel, another favorite) and all the uruguayan classics. Very accurate service, prices have been increased but the relation quality = price its stills good

we ordered salmon and we are two guys with big apetites. we questioned if it would be enough, but when the food came out, we thought GEEEZERS. the portion of salmon was MASSIVE! so massive that with the vegies, we could not finish it.. the owner (i assume) went out of his way to make us happy and the other... Went here for lunch and the food was solid. I got the entrecote steak (when in rome...) and enjoyed it. My girlfriend got an omelette which turned out to be good even though its not what they're known for.

Nice parillada (bbq). Not a fancy restaurant, but food is tasty. It's not very expensive compared to other restaurants in Punta. Service was good. Beer was around U$ 13 a 1L bottle. It's possible to go just for drinks and appetizers. The morron (red pepper) was great, specially with sausage!

I think this is a solid place that beckons with its appealing traditional Uruguayan barbecue. The owner is always there with a smile, welcoming guests, overseeing everything and making you feel at home. The savvy staff is always friendly and helpful. The barbecue for two is rich and generous (maybe three people can eat) and the price is reasonable (USD... More

We chose this place by chance thanks to seeing a lot of locals and the roaring BBQ in the back and it turned out to be a very good choice indeed. The food is served in very large portions, is fresh and cooked to perfection. There is no cover charge surprisingly yet the service is top class. We both had... More
