Went to Chen Mapo Dou Fu-Mǎ Shì Diàn Branch (陈麻婆豆腐骡马市店), qīngyáng qū xi yùlóng jiē 197 hào (青羊区西玉龙街197号) and really enjoyed the authentic Sichuan food. I love mapo tofu but this dish was a bit too spicy for me. There was red hot chili oil floating on top.... it was delicious, though. I guess you have just go for the experience. Don't expect much in way of service.

It is the original Mapo Tofu and everyone will love this version as long as they love the texture of the tofu and the spicy of the ma la sichuan peppercorns and the red chili peppers. It is just the best dish and most common dish here, advise to eat with rice.

First your tongue starts to tingle, then your whole mouth vibrates with the taste of fiery Sichuan peppercorns- a clove/ginger/chili mythical meal. My 8-year old son couldn't stop eating the signature mapo dofu, then explained when we left that his "lips were sparkling." Service was a little numbing also (eat downstairs for a more casual meal)- but certainly no reason... More
