I had low expectations before I went having had too much mediocre Japanese food in China. Not only is the food excellent, but the restaurnat is a very cool, sleek modern bit of architecture.

Shintori is an old factory and the room is very cool and not noisy even if it is big. I had a table at the balcony with view over the first floor, the kitchen and the bar. A very good start!
The waiters knew enough English to easily communicate around ordering, and they were also polite and present, but not...

Fully recommend this excellent restaurant. Sushi and sashimi fresh and delicious, especially the tempura prawn rolls. Special beef cooked on a rock is soft and delicious. Very interesting layout and great ambience. Price was worthy of the quality. Strongly recommend.
Origional from Taipei, the Shintori Shanghai is hiden inside of bamboo ally in French concession. The open kitchen, spacy and post modern deco with detail touch of elegance, it has always been the favorite restaurant of international designers/ architects. My favorite dishes are Sashimi mix, Duck roll with beef touge.
I am here every year at least once and it is still very good, but after so many years they could change the menu a bit and extend the wine menu for international customers (no really new white vintages). It is still one of the best restaurants for me and the freshness of the products, presentation etc is top
After reading the reviews I was very much looking forward to having dinner here. Yes, the place is very special visually, but that's about all that is good. Food is expensive for the meager portions that you get, and the quality is 2nd rate at best. I am sure there are a 100 Japanese restaurants in Shanghai that are better...

Part of the fun was in trying to find the restaurant, which is almost literally hidden in one of the alleys of Julu Lu. Once there, the chic interior won't even make you notice that the building was converted from a warehouse. I would recommend one try the stone pot rice with miso fish, the flavor and the crunch of...

The food is great, of course, but it's also a great location, and a very trendy decor : a very 'industrial' style, with raw materials like concrete & steel, a dark atmosphere, the opened kitchen standing at the very center of the restaurant. You have to walk into a very small and dark alley to find the restaurant so don't...

Exceptional restaurant in Shanghai! From the moment you enter the door, you are welcomed by their hospitable staff and it only gets better from there. It’s well known by at least 5 years from the Europeans and it’s a former theater where "everything makes the show": the cooks on stage, the acrobatic barmans and sushi-men on either side of the...

The food and service in this funky restaurant was a nice way to end a busy day's work in town. Located in what seems to be almost be a converted warehouse, the space is great. the tables allow for a quiet and private dining without being on top of the next table. The spinach and mushrooms in button were remarkable.
