This is a beer bar. I had a light Bavik and my husband had a medium Zwickl, both on the advice of our friendly waitress. Delicious burgers. I had a veggie with portobello mushroom, eggplant, red pepper on a brioche bun...yum. Don't miss the pommes frites...half order shared was plenty for the two of us. Loud jazzy music, concrete topped... More

I heard this was the best place one earth for a burger and fries. I will admit I am not a huge burger lover, but what killed it was the slime from the duck fat fries (this is the only way they make them) on my teeth. Service was slow, drinks good, but overall not a winner for me. Eureka... More

If you are looking for a restaurant/bar for a great selection to beers along with good food and a relaxed atmosphere this is the spot. They have a wide variety of beers and their burgers are outstanding. If your in Claremont, California be sure to pay this establishment a visit. You won't be disappointed.

Had beers and snacks here with my son and friends. The beer selection is great. Although the place was packed (Friday evening), service was friendly and attentive. Even though we did not order dinner, service was not compromised. Next time I am in Claremont, I will definitely return.

Found this place courtesy of Tripadvisor and I now know why it's earned its "Number 1 Restaurant" in Claremont. Food was very good, priced according to quality, and yes, the pomme frites are that good. They are first fried in duck fat and then canola oil to finish -- and served with 4 difference sauces. Very decent menu (burgers, salads,... More

What a cool hideaway in Claremont Village. Undoubtedly a lot of fun for beer and snacks in the evenings, but I was here with family for a weekday lunch. The fries are truly outstanding (cooked in duck fat, I believe), and are served with a tasty variety of dipping sauces. The burgers, while accoutered very nicely with condiments and toppings,... Nice small pub on a side street in Downtown Claremont. The place gets packed so go early or mid afternoon to avoid crowds, there is not a lot of seating. If you have extra seats at your table other people will ask to join you. Nice way to meet new people. They are known for their large variety of beers... More

Last time I was at the Back Abbey we sat outside and were inundated with flies. It was so awful I vowed never to go back or if I did, never to sit outside. So, this time we sat inside and had a great time. Always a great burger and this time had the soup and crab cakes too. Delicious.... More

I was fortunate to visit Back Abbey with a local so we didn't have to wait in line and fight the crowds. We arrived just as it opened for lunch on Saturday and enjoyed "the perfect spot" at the bar. The ambiance, service, and amazing choice of beer put an instant smile on my skeptical face. My beef salad, friend's... More

During a summer holiday in Claremont, I was dragged in this place one night, to avoid the usual McDonald's/KFC/Mexican food. I was not convinced at first that I would find anything like a European/British style pub; actually, I enjoyed my visit quite a lot. The burgers are carefully prepared and are very, very far (fortunately) from the low fast-food quality.... More
