I'm from San Jose and I'm picky about my Mexican food. The salsas at Rancho Viejo are fantastic. The salsa verde that came with the free chips was one of the best I've ever had anywhere. And the service was very friendly. It's a small place, but I really enjoyed my dinner.

My husband and I were recently in Sonoma and went to this restaurant on the advice of some locals. First of all, unfortunately the parking was hard to find and get to. We almost did not go because of this. There were not to many people there so it was pretty quiet. The chips are homemade, but I thought they... More

Here is a guy that decided another burritos and taco restaurant wasn't needed on the highway 12 corridor. So he is changing it up with a fantastic array of Yucatan style dishes as well as a couple of burritos and enchilada dishes for those that aren't willing to step out of their Mexican Food comfort zone. The Mole is different... More

We went to Rancho Viejo twice (lunch and dinner) on our recent trip to Sonoma. We were tired of the the Mexican food we had in Virginia. This food was excellent. They cook each dish individually, do not use lard, even make their own chips. The Yucatan pork dish (which traditionally is cooked underground in Yucatan) was excellent. One of... More

We have eaten here a dozen times since they were written up in a local paper. A husband wife team produces excellent food and service for a modest price. Service is prompt and congenial. We always talk with both owners as they cook and serve. Great homemade fresh chips and green salsa. The stuffed chicken chili relleno is a knockout... More

The staff is about as friendly and cheerful as anyone could ask for. The atmosphere was truly delightful out in their patio area, you felt like you were miles away from everything. Their chips appear to be homeade and you can't stop eating them along with their unique green salsa. My husband's shrimp burrito was deliciously filled with sauteed vegestables... More

Have eaten here several times. Nice family-owned place. Very friendly staff. It's billed as "Yucatan" cuisine. There are some different dishes that you won't find at a "standard" Mexican restaurant. And everything we've tried has been quite good. We keep coming back. Interesting items include a pork and cactus dish, panuchos, conchinita pibil, and a very good mole. Fried plantains,... More

I was complaining at the lack of great Mexican food in Sonoma when this place was recommended to us..what a find! They have a dish of pork roasted for hours in leaves and served with pickled onions and cilantro the likes of which I have never, ever , had anywhere else. It's called something like "Pork Pobillo"..but ask and they'll... More

Recently arrived from Texas, (we LOVE mexican food), we have been trying to find a favorite mexican restaurant locally to take care of our "mexican food fix". We found it. The chicken enchilada with red pepper sauce (a mix of 3 different peppers we were told) is the best we ever had. Black bean was served instead of refried bean.... More
