My husband and I been dining at this restaurant for over 40 years and it never fails to impress us. My parents dined here for the past 65 years and my grandparents used to go on dates at this restaurant approx 80 years ago. My parents and my husband and I have since moved out of state but when we... More

Have heard about Merichka's but just went for the first time. I expected it to be more of a fast-food type of restaurant because I've only heard of their Poor-Boy sandwiches and made an assumption. But it is a sit down restaurant (with table cloths!), one of those been-here-forever kinds of places. The building has been added on several times... More

I have been going to Merichka's all of my 54 years. This place has been owned by the same family since it started in1933. For all the politically correct, overly health concerned, please do not go here, have a garlic butter poor boy and then write a bad review. There are healthy choices for you. But, for those of us... first visit last night the garlic steak sandwich is a big one- two small eaters could easily share. meat appears to be pounded before grilling. nice bread adds to total package. salad so- so. dressing tasted like out of a bottle. cottage fries were good but extra crispy. may have been in the fryer a bit too long. not worth... This place is great! The Poor Boy's are as good as they were 40 years ago. The fried chicken is also very good. What ever you do, DON'T forget to order the Onion Rings! Ya have to love a place that on it's sign says the have a "Tap Room".

We went Saturday night for Steak and PoorBoys. Drippy garlic butter goodness...onion rings and steak. They have changed the lettuce in the salad I do not think it is bagged anymore and did not have the chemical taste to it that I noticed last time. The food was great, service was great and we were happy and full. I tried... More

Like many others, I grew up in Joliet, but have been away since 1980. I look forward to every class reunion (or any other excuse to get to the Chicago area) so I can get a Poor Boy and Onion Rings. I buy their frozen butterine and store it in my freezer so I could make my closest attempt at... More

Have been going to Merichka's since 1965. Unfortunately moved out of the area in 1973 therefore my visits have been interminttent since then. Went there for lunch just this past Tues. on the way back from Chicago and I have to say they haven't missed a beat. The Poorboy Steak sandwich is to "die" for. I recommend the plate which... More

This place needs a bath and a new wait staff. You leave here smelling of garlic without even eating that poor boy they are known for.

The service was fine, people are friendly - the food ok. It is quite noisy when the restaurant is busy.
