Description: Built before the Civil War and completely remodeled in 1936 by the Cal Milam family, the Merrick Inn served as the manor house for one of Lexington"s finest horse farms. It was here at Merrick Place, that Milam and his groom, Mr. Johnson, trained the fabled "Exterminator", Kentucky Derby winner of 1918. Here also, "Tut Tut", Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee and Dust Flower started on their paths to fame and fortune. None of these, however, gained such widespread fame as Merrick himself. Merrick finished in the money 157 times, winning 62 races. Merrick became a member of the Milam family not only because of his success at the races, but also because he was "worthy in deeds and noble in character". The Merrick Inn has been owned and operated by the Murray family for nearly 40 years. Offering the finest in traditional southern dining and innovative specials. Times have changed, but we believe the beauty and charm of our inn remain the same.

Based on the other reviews, we went to the Merrick Inn for a special occasion. Perhaps we caught them on a bad night, but the food (beyond the appetizer) was awful. For the price of the meal, it was almost laughable how bad the food was. I honestly felt ripped off for what we paid. I would never go back.... More

We had a birthday cocktail party and supper for our Dad's 80th Birthday, and the staff at Merrick Inn did an amazing job. From the beginning of the planning - a year in advance - to the actual event, the Private Event Coordinator, Alex Lennon, took care of everything! The service was superb, the food was excellent, and the evening... More

We had our son and new daughter in law's wedding rehersal dinner at Merrick Inn, we booked the Merrick Inn based on internet reviews and research. I have to say they were better than any review we read. Alex and his team did a great job handling our fifty plus group. The food was fine southern dinning, not banquet quality.... More

This is the home of southern hospitality, cozy comfortable dining, consistent food, and excellent service. And of course everyone at some point talks about the fried chicken.

I have been a resident at Merrick Place for quite some time now and frequent Merrick Inn a couple of times a month while the patio is open. Recently my parents and I went up to the Inn for dinner but it was raining so we opted to sit in the "Big Bar". I had ordered a glass of Candor... More

Conducted a business meeting here one evening in one of the upper rooms. Extremely quiet setting and our waiter was very accommodating to our needs. Meal was fantastic from beginning to end. After all these years, Merrick still receives my 'best in Lex' dining experience.

Visited the Merrick Inn after a long absence and it couldn't have been better. If you're looking for a place with a pretentious attitude and dishes you can't pronounce or identify, this is not it. The MI understands that excellence doesn't need to be complicated - just well-prepared food and efficient service in a warm, relaxing atmosphere. The "special" vegetable... More

As many new restaurants pop up in Lexington, the go to place for a great meal is the Merrick Inn. An old establishment that keeps reinventing itself, it is known for its Southern Cuisine. Their fried chicken is incredible and enormous, classic appetizers like the grouper fingers & deep fried banana peppers are great tasting and plentiful to share. We... More
