the best kept secret on Mount Desert Island is The Boat House on the water behind the Claremont. The ships and boats in the harbor while watching the people mull around is such an exjoyable thing. The sunset that evening was stunning. New to the area and looking for a really great place to eat, we decided to try this place... More

The Boat House on the water behind the Claremont is the best kept secret on Mount Desert Island. Cocktails on the back porch watching the sunset on the Fjord is about as close to heaven as I've been on this earth. Watching the occasional clipper ship sail by is like something out of an old movie. The picnic boats that... More

I have eaten here for over 30 years. It has had ups and downs food-wise over the years, but for the last few, it is the best restaurant in town, especially when you want one of the world's greatest views. A creative and consistently well delivered menu, GREAT wine list and friendly well-trained service. This is a landmark location with... More

This is a typical old style auberge. Inside, the place is remarkable. Ask for a table near a window so you can have a great scenic view of the quiet bay of the sound. Great place to aet for a special event.

We have been going here for years and I am happy to say that one of the best meals I have had here was this year(Xanthus is the name of their restaurant). The setting is beautiful overlooking the mouth of Somes Sound with the mountains of Acadia in the background and the dining room is elegant but comfortable with out... More

Exquisite food, fresh and local. Expensive but worth the splurge. Unexpected but delicious flavor pairings (Maine blueberry cobbler w/lavender ice cream, for ex)

This is a trip back to the elegance of the perfect, old Maine waterfront inn. The building is wonderfully uipgraded, the food was superb and the waitstaff are young people working in America for the summer. A real delightful experience in a beautifulplace.

Just had a quick drink here. Margaritas were fresh with their mix. Very expensive though. Great view and simple atmosphere down at the dock bar. Worth doing once. Hotel looks beautiful.

Stopped to check the place out, and had a drink at the bar down by the water. Very Kennedy crowd in all the regalia of a Brooks Brothers store. Service was lousy at the bar, drinks were worse. Paris Hilton wannabes in skinny jeans dotted the deck looking over an ugly, muddy cove. This crowd and this place were completely... More

Dinner was excellent, but found it hard to believe they were out of lobster. Wine list was excellent.
