After a brisk river cruise, my wife and I meandered into Gloucester for something to eat. We hadn't been in the area in quite a while, and just stumbled upon the Topside. My appetizer was chicken livers wrapped in bacon. Just a touch overcooked, they were still tender and delicious. My wife chose Artichokes Montgomery, artichoke hearts in a garlic... More

Stopped in here after checking out several other places - very happy we ate here. Had the clam chowder, seafood sampler, and oysters on the half shell. Oysters were enormous, and awesome. The other food was great, fresh as well. Staff was very friendly, but the owner's wife, Dawn, was a real gem. We talked for quite a bit and... More

Cheesy deep fried polenta was a different accompaniement to the seafood special. Excellent presentation and good food. People were friendly and helpful. Lemon blueberry dessert was unique. locally owned and only open April to October, they had justs reopened when I was there. Service was quick and the upstairs pub also served food so there was a choice a dining... More

we had our annual family reunion this past weekend (4-19-13) and I wanted to go to a new place other than the random greasy shack we crowd into every year. I found this place by browsing the web on my phone and called to make a reservation. they were very friendly and willing to accommodate the 16 of us. The... More

This past weekend, we stayed in Gloucester for Girl's Weekend. Topside was recommended to me by a local. The food was absolutely fantastic and I would have gone there again that weekend if there wasn't a couple of other places that were recommended. It was a quiet night in the restaurant, not sure if it was the weather or what.... More

It was a rainy night and we couldn't find a parking space (on street only) near any of the restaurants recommended by our hotel clerk. Finally we saw a space in front of the Topside. We recalled it had pretty good reviews on tripadvisor , so we went for it. It was practically empty on a Friday night. Not a... More

Perhaps it was a bit off-season to come in Paril, but I was very disappointed. Often I trust tripadvisor reviews, but not in this case. The service was slow and unattentive and food similar to a grocery store deli. The saving grace was a good mixed drink, but how can you screw that up? Too bad, won't be coming back... More

Dear Traceydee, sorry to hear about your experience here at The Topside Grill. We are a seasonal restaurant that just re-opened a couple days ago. We are currently training an entirely new staff and this weekend was a test for the new staff and I'll be the first to say, we are still working out a few of the kinks.... More

We came here twice while staying in Gloucester, first to try the Tuesday oyster night and then the night after to try out some of their mains, including the famous New England lobster dinner. The oysters we had the first night really blew us away, they were delicious and served in various ways (we had one type with spinach and... More

On a Friday night when other restaurants were packed, this place was empty. I can see why. I have lived here for 15 years and enjoy many of the restaurants Gloucester has to offer, but I can't understand how this place gets good reviews. I had the "Gulf" shrimp - they were small, frozen and most likely farm-raised in Indonesia.... More

We are locals and it has taken us far too long to sample Topside Grill (its somewhat unpreposessing exterior may have contributed to our foot dragging). But we took in the Tuesday Oyster Special last night and could not have been more delighted with what we got: a truly special eating experience! Succulent oysters and littlenecks served at just the... More
