Tremendous meal. Very good service. Nice decor. Took our young family there on a Sat eve based on reviews here at TA and the food was exceptional! We love to eat and have high standards and believe this place focuses on quality. The seared halibut wasnto die for with it's perfect sauce and I have been salivating about it since... More

Sometimes it is hard to find a good meal out if you are a late diner. Not in Gloucester! The crew at the Franklin are always happy to see you, even late on a weeknight. Great cocktails, High quality food, carefully prepared. Often live music, but appropriate for dining.

Six of us enjoyed an excellent dinner in celebration of my mom's birthday. The food was fabulous! Three in the party had the hangar steak, two had the tuna special and one had the burger. All of us would rate the food with five stars. The service was also excellent - keeping our water refilled and they were very personable... More

Four of us had dinner at The Franklin Cafe last night. My wife and our daughter had Halibut with citrus butter. Both were extremely pleased with all aspects of their selection---portion size, presentation, and flavor (cooked to perfection). Our other dishes included the Sirloin Bleu Cheese Platter. The burger was excellent and the fries were a "pleasant surprise". I ordered... More

We wanted to check out Gloucester and dinner time was approaching... The town is really missing its tourist potential, but that's another matter... We checked out reviews and storefronts on Main Street, settling on Franklin. It looks like a bar from outside (including the martini sign above the entrance, but they were doing a lot more dinner business than bar... More

My husband and I had dinner here while on a getaway night. The food was excellent and the service was friendly but not overboard. We never felt rushed even though they were at full capacity. We enjoyed lingering over our food and wine. We both had the cod dish which is a signature dish of theirs and finished with banana... More

Having discovered our town Rockport is DRY we set out to dine in nearby Gloucester. Franklin cafe on Main Str (deserted) proved a very good choice: fresh produce, friendly people and fast (too fast to our liking but that is common in US) service.

Perfectly located on Main Street or "downtown" Gloucester. Franklin Cape Ann has two floors of dining in a gorgeous old building. The lower dining room is intimate, lights are a little lower than the upper level. Weekly there is live music on the lower level. Upper level offers larger tables for larger parties and HUGE windows over looking bustling Main... More

Sometimes the food is excellent and sometimes it is not. The beautiful woodwork was painted over with brown paint and the bar mirrors were removed and replaced with solid panels of a ugly 1970s blue paint. The drinks are consistently good. If you go, skip Sunday night as the service, food, and bartender are below standard. If you do go... More
