I hadn't been to Hobbys in several years, but wound up having lunch there today. It's a typical deli atmosphere, which is to say no atmosphere, but the food is delicious. The standbys (Pastrami, Corned beef and real turkey) are wonderful and the sandwiches overstuffed. The chopped liver is also very good. I had a bowl of chicken soup with... More

Do something with the place, it needs help. The corned beef and pastrami is delitious. Don't order mushed potatoes however

All I had was a pastrami sandwich and fried onion rings, but that was enough to convince me that this restaurant is the real deal. Cheerful servers, dated "decor", no parking nearby - who cares? The first bite of my pastrami sandwich was like a mouthful of heaven. And the pickles and green tomatoes they serve for free are as... More

We booked a table after seeing the reviews and were not disappointed! The place was buzzing before the devils game and the food was amazing. Staff were attentive and efficient. We were made to feel very welcome and we feel we had the ultimate "American deli" experience. This deli is well worth a visit and would recommend the brisket sandwich... More

Attended before game 2 of Devils/Kings final. Big devils fans from Canada that heard of this place on Facebook Devil fan sites. We were welcomed, and when we told them we have not had a lot of true deli food, they gave us an assortment! Soups, sandwiches, the pickles and of course the Poutine... Yup, we know poutine and there's... More

Arriving at Newark (NJ) Airport I used TripAdvisor to find a restaurant for lunch. Up popped Hobby's in downtown Newark. I dialed it into my GPS and off we went. What a wonderful experience. The best pastrami ever, great slaw and pickles. My wife had their special chicken sandwich, which she loved. We all had cupcakes for desert, delicious. Parking... More

One of the best pastrami sandwiches in NJ! Hobby's is a classic deli -- and a top notch one, all around. I've been here many times, and my last visit -- as always -- I enjoyed it very much. Just go. You wont' be disappointed.

Hobby's is a classic deli, with great food, friendly servers, and decent value. I never have a problem finding on-street parking (metered-bring some coins), and the neighborhood is safe. If you're traveling in the area during the day, it's worth finding you way into downtown Newark for lunch at Hobby's.

By far one of the best pastrami sandwiches in NJ or NY. Very lean, tasty, not salty and fresh. Just had lunch and its a winner. The place itself is 90 yrs old and the interior I'm guessing was redone in the 1960's, but no matter it's great. Try the Pea soup.
