The Common Room is the little sister of the respected Tasting Room. Normally, those restaurants that are related to a top-restaurant are well worth a visit. Not this time.. The Common Room is an eclectic restaurant without a strange atmosphere that serves tapas with little taste. Worst risotto ever.. Next to this, the service was rather bad. We ordered a... More

Avondrood Guesthouse booked breakfast for us at The Common Room. What a wide selection of the most delicious juices, fruit, muesli, yoghurts, etc etc. We also went to the Sunday night screening - a delightful way of spending a Sunday evening in a small town.

Not in the mood for fine dining à la The Tasting room but still want the fine dining tasting experience? Head straight to the Common Room for creative great food in small plates to share in a relaxed warm environment. The Parmesan french toast, the Beef tartar and the Peanut butter parfait stood out in their perfect combinations of tastes... More

This is a fabulous spot to taste Chef Margot Janse's food in a more casual atmosphere compared to The Tasting Room. The decor is fun, colourful and quirky. The food is just as much fun and incredibly tasty. Recommend the wildebeest bitterballen (like a soft meatball) and the beef cheek with bacon crumble. Sit out on the rear patio to... More

The more casual companion restaurant to the Tasting Room, they trade in their formality for comfort and casualness. They retain the top-notch technique and flavors in their cooking, as well as much of the imagination, creativity and whimsy, but here it results in shareable small plates. The pork riblets, guineafowl rillettes and beet risotto were all excellent, but you really... More

The Common Room is the perfect location for a relaxed dinner after a busy day. The overal ambience is warm and relaxed, while the armchairs are very comfortable. The menu is varied, interesting, and eclectic - all dishes are beautifully prepared and presented. Simply put, the food is great!! I would recommend this restaurant for couples or busness, but it... On previous visits we have had truly memorable meals, but they have turned the restaurant into a "tapas bar" - methinks they are resting on their laurels!

The Common Room boasts a relaxed atmosphere where you can chose to sit a table or on a comfy couch and enjoy a bottle or two of great wine accompanied by gourmet tapas. This is a perfect spot to balance all of the fine dining spots in the town and in the region! As the tapas are coming out of... More

This is a very good restaurant with good ambience, decor and service and excellent food. The squid was particularly memorable. It is not fine dining as such but I rate this as 'must' visit.

After failing to get a booking at the Tasting Room, we were offered a booking in the Common Room and wish we'd gone elsewhere. The food was of a very poor standard - bland fish pops were like very bad chip shop fish, satay squid was lukewarm and flabby, a kebab shop would be ashamed to serve lamb like the... More
