Great diner. Great food. We have vacationed in the area for many years and have been to most of the restaurants in the area. It is a favorite of the locals and it is always busy around the lunch and dinner hours-that says it all.

We eat here quite often. Calabash is known for all it's seafood restaurants and I think the fried fish is better at The Gravy. French fires are definitely better. Their daily specials are always good. Service is great. I've had better desserts but I am usually too full to order any anyway.
Calabash style food and lots if it. Get there early or stop by for lunch. I've had the fried shrimp sandwich and also the fried shrimp platter - both were delicious.
If I could, I would give Gravy 3.5 stars - no complaints, but nothing really stood out. To be fair, I had a fried chicken sandwich for lunch and probably should go back and have a seafood dinner to give a totally acurate rating. I wouold return, but it isn't a "must eat here again" location for me either.
After a long day of golf, my foursome was looking for some good food. Based on the reviews, we decided to try Gravy and were glad we did.
We arrived around 6:30 and the place was packed. We almost left, but the hostess said the wait was only about 10 minutes.
I won't go into what we had, but let's...

When you are looking for a good seafood dinner on a friday night go to Gravy restauant for the bset shrimp and flounder dinner in the Calabash area. you might have a little wait but it will be worth it.
Went to Gravy for the meatloaf special, it was very tasty but it seems that some of the food here is not 'like homemade'... instant mashed potatoes?? in a small town diner?
Italian tomato salad was tomatoes and canned black olives in a pool of bottled Italian dressing, yuk. Hush puppies are like soggy bread dough logs, not crunchy corn...

My husband and I visited Gravy and had not been by since it was named the Beach Diner. It was great, Southern food and no wait in the off-season. We got cubed steak and the fried chicken breast with lots of different sides that we shared. We will definitely be back.
Food was good and portion sizes were good. Had a pretty long wait to get seated though. It was more enjoyable because we were with family and visiting while we ate.
