The wonderful aroma of baked goods hits when you open the door. The food lives up to it. My wife had a half turkey sandwich (more than ample) and spring vegetable soup. I had a bacon, egg and cheese wrap. All were delicious.

Pleasant spot, laid back, nice sized meal and very fresh, but a little over priced for the results. Needs a few changes to bring it up from being cafeteria style service. Otherwise a good stop on the way to Sydney.

I stop at the Herring Choker every chance I get when travelling to or from Cape Breton, both when on business or for pleasure. The owner and staff are an absolutely fantastic crew. They always have an interesting choice for homemade soups and make excellent sandwiches. And their sweets are to die for, don't eat too much trust me. If... More

I passed by this place for years because I always thought 'Herring = seafood" and i'm not a fan of seafood, but they make AMAZING deli sandwiches here! Get the Corned beef! You won't regret it!

We have lunch here whenever we are in the Baddeck area. It's all good! Home made soups, home made breads, yummy sandwiches, and friendly service along with a great view of the Bras d'Or lake across the road. Top it off with some of their fabulous cookies or cinnamon buns for dessert and you are good to go.

We stopped here twice and loved our meal both times. We had the Herring Choker Club sandwich and it was excellent. We got a side with it and that was good too. They have freshly baked bread--we bought a loaf to go with dinner and it was also great. The oatcakes were the best that we found in the area--and... More

We called in at the Herring Choker Deli to get some sandwiches for lunch. The service was really friendly and it looked a really nice place to while away a bit of time.

The Deli is a bakery and sandwich shop with a quality about as good as Subway. At the time, that was all we wanted, so it was ok.

As soon as you enter the door the scents of a great deli reach you and you know that you are in for something good. And for this year (2012) they are staying open through to Christmas. Let's hope that they open early for spring 2013. Highly recommended.
