Wife and I stopped in for lunch while visiting Mt Rushmore and the surrounding area. She had Chicken Fried Steak & I had the Hot Beef. The CF Stk was a frozen piece of mushy, non-meat substance with nasty brown, actually black gravy ( I mean a lot of gravy) with mashed potatoes buried in the gravy. The potatoes were... More

Might be an ok eatery for local residents, but nothing special for tourists. Casual Down home cooking, bar/cafe atmosphere. Chicken fried steak was mush. Did not seem like actual steak. Chicken fried steak was typical. Price is right, especially if feeding a family.

We did eat at Slate Grill in town and it was not very good. The food was just average and not worth the money. I had an Elk-Bison Burger. It looked and tasted like a frozen hamburger patty. I was not impressed. Since I've had Buffalo before I knew what to expect and this was not fresh at all. The... More

Food is ordinary but excellent! The Cinnamon Rolls should be a food group! The steaks are melt-in-your-mouth fabulous.

One must simply try the Billy Hill Burger! It is "to die for"! The wait staff is very well trained and personable.

They have the best coffee in town with your breakfast or a captain and coke with your dinner! The french dip is incredible.

The food is pretty good though nothing special. Service is hit-or-miss but most often is fast and friendly. Breakfast is definitely the best time to go. It's fairly standard fare: eggs, hashbrowns, pancakes, etc. but a great value.

We visited the Slate Creek Grille right after riding the 1880s train. The ticket agent suggested this place and we are glad we took her advice. We arrived about 30 minutes before closing time, but they cheerfully seated us and we never felt rushed during our visit. Our family of five all had great meals. The older couple on-site (we... More
