Stopped in for the soul burger and gumbo, YUM! The place is bursting with character. George was behind the bar and offered to give us a tour. He said many famous people stop in and they have a lot of pictures to prove it. He also told us about some movies that had been made there. They have a court... More

The bar looks rundown on purpose, I guess, to make it look like you stepped back in time. The upstairs is spooky and would be fun to hang out in on Fri and Sat. The hamburger is fresh, but ordinary. Not really worth $5.

One of the best burgers I have ever tasted! My first impression of this place was a dingy hole in the the wall. But it is so much more! Said to be one of the most haunted places in Memphis, E&H was formerly the host of a brothel. An eerie lingering feeling will stay wrapped around you like a blanket... More

When we wandered in I at first wanted to leave because its really a dive. But the bartender and two customers who were just leaving convinced us to stay and have a Soul Burger. We loved th place! Its historic, and fun to wander around the upstairs. My son who is a musicina was thrilled to find out that the... More

Go back in time in this quaint old buliding...one of the oldest buildings in Memphis. The Sole Burgers are great but dont look for the fluff that you get from most places, just good flavor. The building is an old brothel and believed to be one of the most haunted places in Memphis, you can walk up stairs and explore... More

This has got to be the mother of all dive bars ever. It used to be an old brothel and I understand the upstairs is haunted. They give tours Sun-Thurs of the upstairs. Meanwhile downstairs, enjoy a one of a kind atmosphere and the famous Soulburger. They only serve one thing here, the Soul Burger and it's worth the trip!... More

Earnestine & Hazel's was a great experince. It was a really good afternoon. Had the soul burger (wonderful and lived up to the hype), played the juke box (stocked great old soul and rock), played some pool and toured the upstairs ( a former brothel). I'll be going back soon.

Behold, the grand daddy dive bar to end all dive bars! In my research for good Memphis bars, I was thrilled that not only does E&H boast a terrific burger, but was also featured in films, including the Sean Penn gem "21 Grams", so I had to check this one out. Former brothel and hangout for guys like Ray Charles,... More

I'm a 39 year old Memphis native and for lunch last week was the first time that I step foot into E&H. There are a couple of things you MUST do when visiting E&H. #1 order the soul burger (it's good, a tradition and you wouldn't want anyone to ask you did you get one and you hadn't). #2 play... More

The best hamburger you will ever eat! The place is in a historic building which was bordello or house of ill repute years back. It is now a popular night spot. But the burger, called a "soul burger" is what it is about.
