Description: The Blue Anchor Inn was one of the first pubs in South Wales to produce quality bar meals back in the 1980's. Since then we have gone from strength to strength, winning awards including the South Wales Food Pub of the year for four years,2013, 2011, 2008 and 2006. We are Egon Ronay recommended and are included in the Michelin Eating out in Pubs guide since 2007(the only South Wales entry in the guide), as well as the AA Pub Guide 2013, where we appear as Pick of the Pubs for the Vale of Glamorgan. As well as food who could forget real ales! we have always been a forerunner in the promotion of real ale in South Wales. We were the first winner of the CAMRA pub of the year award back in 1983 and we have maintained our position to the present day by being included in the current 2013 CAMRA Guide.

All the awards this pub has been awarded are richly deserved. It is quite simply fantastic. The pub itself is beautiful - 14th century apparently and seemingly unchanged since then. Thatched roof, flag stones and massive fireplaces with roaring fires going (in May!) and a nice place to sit outside when the sun's shining. The food is very, very good... More

Having eaten here quite a few times, we found the menu the same as about a year ago, nothing seems to change on it. Having said that the food was excellent and well presented.

Found this pub on Trip Advisor during a one night stay in the area. Popular with locals and a great selection of real ale. The food was different from the usual pub fayre with lots of fish dishes. Well presented and reasonably priced. About £20 per head for 2 courses with drinks. Would advise reserving a table at busy times.

It's a fabulous old pub, with low ceilings and some very low doorways, stone walls and a thatched roof. There's a new restaurant extension, built in a sympathetic matching style, but the old section has more character, including a wonderful snug with a very low doorway. Dating back to 1380, it has traded as a pub almost continuously since that... More

The Blue Anchor pub, and its main car park, sits either side of the main road through East Aberthaw and is a beautiful thatched building with real old-world charm. The pub's restaurant, upstairs from the main bar, is a darkly-cosy open room lit from small windows and from the numerous candles dotted around the room - the result is a... More

We have eaten Sunday lunch here a number of times. This weekend was just as wonderful as the other times. The food is fantastic and just the right amount. The three courses are great and very good value for such high quality food. Would highly recommend it. We are looking forward to our next treat.

A pub that serves Old Peculier (difficult to get in Wales and South of England) and also great food. Great fried haddock, good gammon steak and chips. Great range of desserts and service was also very good. Pub itself is very quaint, full of nooks and crannies, wondered if I should have been ordering Butter Beer.

We went here for a celebratory meal and were not disappointed. The pub is lovely, really old and quaint and provides an intimate atmosphere. The menu offers a good deal of choice as the pub and restaurant menus have been amalgamated. The portions were ample and very well presented. We all managed a starter and main, but couldn't manage a... More

Friendly and comfortable pub restaurant. Interesting and quirky old world cottage style. Warm log fires and fresh eggs for sale. We had a reservation for upstairs on a Sunday. Very busy, I think I would prefer a weekday or evening actually. My chicken was delicious, Husbands lamb not very impressive looked more like sliced meat out of a can. Vegetable... More
